I have been watching the news about the fires. I wish there was something besides sit and watch and say a prayer! I am glad y'all are allright! I remember when we had fires in Jax. We had all sorts of fire bans. It is startling to see fields of burnt everything where there used to be pretty trees and shrubbery!

Well we had a little bit of rain tonight. Just enough to wet the ground. We need about 6 hours of a nice slow soaking rain.

Also a chance of snow tonight.
Posted By: JV Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 10th, 2006 at 12:46 PM
Turned off cold here tonight but no rain in sight for us. Enjoy it hope you get a bunch more. Said rain will stop at thr Red once again we miss out.

They gave us a slight chance of rain for last night and about a 60% chance today...that usually means we wont get any. But at about 11pm last night it started to thunder really loud...then it rain hard for about 10 minutes and stopped. It started again about 2am and has rain off & on since. I am so THANKFUL for this rain! I haven't had a chance to check the weather channel to see if Oklahoma and Texas are getting this as well...but I am praying they are. This is such a WELCOME relief.

And here I thought I was gonna have to ask Fernie to do a rain dance for us!

Today is the 23rd day of rain here (11 inches)
The extended forecast calls for another 14 days of rain which will break all previous records.
Lots of mud slides now and concerns that there may be flooding soon.

Welcome to Washington, the Everwet State! frown
Posted By: 4Ruddy Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 10th, 2006 at 10:07 PM
I can't believe that Mr. Bill..23 days...
And here we have NOT had rain for so many months it is crazy! I was really surprised at our rain here because it was so unexpected. Saturday they were saying it would ba about 3 weeks before we had even a slight chance of rain and then this just happened. I am so surprised that we have anything that is still alive around here with the drought being so bad. But...you can actually HEAR the moisture soaking in to the ground it is so loud.

After upper 70's on Sunday, we had a freeze overnight and a cold, blustery day on Mon., then a dusting of snow early this morning. Two hours north they got a foot of snow in places...high tomorrow is supposed to be in the 60's, then upper 70's and back to high fire danger on Thurs. nutz
I've seen a lot of crazy weather here in OK, but this is just nutz. frown

It rained here all night...We got 2 inches of rain. The last measureable amount was Nov 27, So in my north central part of Arkansas we finally should be out of fire danger.
Posted By: tamara Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 11th, 2006 at 08:47 PM
How about snow, over five feet of it so far and snow again for tonight. Thinking of you JV. Keep safe.
Posted By: moondance Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 11th, 2006 at 11:42 PM
Duh We have had some really strange weather here. Very wet fall, one bit of snow that lasted on the ground for a week and now nada. It has been between 50-60 degrees here. Waaay to warm!! My tulips and daffadills are starting to show. I just keep raking leaves over them. Very strange weather-just kinda hope that it does snow here-maybe we will get slammed Jan-Feb.

Sure wish I could send some rain out your way JV, we have plenty to go around. I know you desperately need some. Unusual weather for us in eastern Washington, normally it's snow...

Yesterday was another big fire day here. Several fires in our area, but in southern Oklahoma a fire burned 16,000 acres and is still burning today. This after parts of northern Oklahoma got 14 inches of snow on Tuesday!
Posted By: Marian Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 14th, 2006 at 12:03 AM
Thank God we are getting rain now . Maybe we will be removed from the burn bans . No wildfires close to us , but I have lived in dread of careless people .
We have only had snow twice , and the biggest was less than an inch , and went off within a day .

Wind is high here today last night had a North wind we got Souther oklahoma's grass fire smell down here everyone was calling it in. Bad when we smell grass smoke everyone gets worried. Said chance of rain here Sunday to Tuesday but not promising as you know it changes with every wind shift.Glad parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas are getting rain and snow.

Just saw that they had a tornado in Alabama today. This whole country is in deep trouble if this kind of weather keeps up. Global warming or not, they say our weather is changing for the long term.

Also had Tornado's across East Texas if this keeps up we will be in it chest deep. nutz

We are getting very light rain this morning. Has been sprinkling for about an hour ground is still dry as is the leaves and grass below the surface but it is rain. Oklahoma fires seem to be out pacing our fires here. Hope we all get much needed substancial rain very soon.

More wild fires everywhere high winds and running out of water town Crescent is right in the path water is 45 to 100 miles away. Looks like Texas and Oklahoma will soon be a charred mass. Town of Graford west of Fort Worth does not even have drinking water . Depending on Forest service aircraft to be able to bring water in most lakes are virtualy dry.

There's a huge fire burning at Tatum, south central OK, at this moment. Another critical fire danger day tomorrow. Our small pond is now a puddle about 18 inches across, and an inch and 1/2 deep...our big pond is only a foot or 2 deep. We stocked both ponds 2 years ago...

Its nice and cold here again ^.^ Unfortunately, we no longer have normal rain, and its too cold to snow... So ya, every time i wana drive my car i have to break it out of its inch thick icy layer first lol. I'm so afraid i'm gonna break a window! shocked

Dave saw that about Tatum. I try my best to keep up with things on Oklahoma still have friends and relatives there. I pull up your RV stations on my computer and watch the clips. Our old house on SE 25th in the city was hit by tornadoes a few years ago was by it right after that. My mother was born there plus we lived in OKC and for a short time in Reno/Mustang.

Only a day or two Triss no where near long enough to make up for almost 6 months of no rain.

we need 2 kinds of rain, a long slow soaking rain, and a good ol' gully washer.

A soaking rain to get the ground nice and wet again, and a gully washer to fill up the ponds and lakes.

90 percent chance tonight for rain and 90 percent tomorrow...They are calling for several inches to fall, so I guess Mark won't be working tomorrow since he's a roofer....it said there may be some localized very heavy rain and flooding..... :p

Dave , Pat did you get any of this rain we got yesterday? I hope you did but map on news last night showed it to miss Oklahoma almost altogether. Hope you got at least the 2 inch we got. Clear here again today.

Jimmy, they got rain 50 miles south of us, but not so much as a drop here. Heard on national radio news that OK and Texas got a good, heavy rain and the fire danger is now over!
Tell that to our local firemen, lol. nutz
Posted By: obywan59 Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 24th, 2006 at 12:54 AM
We got a half inch of rain overnight. We're in pretty good shape here, that makes a little over 4 inches for the month so far.
Posted By: JV Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 24th, 2006 at 02:15 AM
I know the map didn't even show a cloud in your area. And our NBC news said you still had fire alerts out in your area. Was hoping you got at least as much as we did guess was too much to hope for.

Yahoo! We got 1/2 inch here. That won't do much for the ponds, of course, but the dormant trees and everything else will benefit so much. Fire danger will be back as soon as the wind gets bad again.
It sure is a beautiful day here, at any rate! 60 some degrees, sunny. Perfect! wavey

We got between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch. Water puddles everywhere.
I had some outside stuff to do today but I will do it in the morning.

That rain that you guys got in Oklahoma, came here afterwards and left 1.4 inches of rain in about 5 hours, needless to say there were huge puddles everywhere for awhile.

If I say we had two days of sunshine... does that say anything?
Posted By: Amigatec Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - January 29th, 2006 at 10:13 PM
For some reason in Oklahoma there is a dividing line on weather at I-40. The weather seems to change when it crosses the Interstate.

I am glad the weather is starting to change here and in the NW.
Posted By: JV Re: How dry or Wet is it here Part II - February 1st, 2006 at 03:23 PM
We are back to wild fires again. property around Lake Worth burned today took a deck I think they saved the home. Other fires around. Understand having more fires around Oklahoma. pretty soo will be out of anything to burn then can rain a foot a day and wash whats left away like it does in CA.
