[Linked Image]

The other one I'm not sure I don't know the name at all now.

I'm going to replant this one into a better pot with fresh cacti potting mix soon.

That is a truely beautiful jade! The second cactus, with the cephalum, is probably a melocactus of some sort. The flowers will come from that top part. The first could be so many things. Has it ever flowered? If so, where did the flowers come from (right from the growth point, from a little lower down, a lot lower down) and what did the flower stems look like (hairy, spiny, naked), and what color? Cacti are classified primarilly by their flower morphology. Until it blooms, you won't be certain of the species. Here are 2 good sites to look around on to help you find a genus. Even if you can't, they've got a lot of info and are fun to browse!

I have now replanted it as it was due for it so it will be better off now.

I think it has I"m not sure it was quite some time ago, if it"s the one I"m thinking of it was directly from the growth point and they were very short with little fleshy type stems, the color of the flower was yellow.

Thanks for both of those site links smile flw I haven't come across them in my search for information.

Hi again. I've looked around in my books and I believe the first cactus falls into one of these geni (my son, the Latin student assures me that's the correct plural of genus); echinocactus, ferocactus, or parodia. Ferocactus generally (but not always) have stouter spines. Good luck looking!

From the site about the Ferocactus glaucescens.
Quote
Colorful summer flowers stand in solitude atop their stems.
It doesn't have a cephalum and when it has flowered it has been from the cephalum not the stems.
Thanks for trying to identify it though smile wavey flw

I think I'm getting closer to knowing what it is, so it must be a melocactus of some sort like margaret e. pell said and I did some looking and found this.

So many to look at and I don't see it yet.

I had more of a look and I think this is in fact it
Melocactus oreas
http://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Melocactus&species=oreas
http://cactiguide.com/graphics/m_oreas_600.jpg
That's the closest looking one I have found yet.
The body and spines look the same with the cephalum and flowers.
