Trent likes to get in his tub then get out and shake water on the dogs as well as me. He will say cold I go over to put a towel around him he shakes water everywhere and laughs. U.P. listen to Cindy be careful what you wish for because they are baby's that never grow up and require constant watching as well as care. And are very messy. If Trent my sun Conure ate half what he waisted he would be too fat to fly. laugh As usual Lola is beautifull Cindy. thumbup

Lola is so cute Cindy! She looks like she could be quite the handful! There is a bird here in one of the pet stores that I am in love with. The feeling is mutual, as whenever I go in she starts hollering until I go to her cage and play with her.The ladies that work there just laugh. She is a rosey breasted cockatoo. I can't afford to buy her though, so we will have to be pet store playmates until she finds a forever home.

Lola is so cute, but she looks like she could be quite a clown. Do those kind of parrots learn how to talk?

I love birds too, but with my new kitten I guess I better just enjoy all my birds outside.

Have a great day!

Hey ShirlS,

Don't those rose-Breasted Cockatoos just tug at your heart? When I had my Cockatiel, Driscol" I used to go to "The Bird Store" here in town to get his food and supplies. They had all kinds of birds there, so I would buy Driscol's food in small amounts, then I had an axcuse to go there more often. Sometimes it took me a couple of hours just to buy food.

Once when I was there they had four rose-Breasted Cockatoo babies for sale and I fell in love with one of them, so I started stopping by there more often. smile I got to thinking it might be nice to have another bird in the house and they really aren't that big, so they probably don't cost too much. Now, I was seriously considering it, so the next time I was in there and talking to the bird, I causally asked, "How much is this bird?" Oh my gosh, it was $2,500! I about died when I heard that and I couldn't believe it. I figured the huge parrots they had there were probably pretty expensive; BUT, this was SUCH a tiny bird!
The one I liked was the first one someone bought and it didn't take them long to sell the other three. We must have some rich people here in town, but I'm not one of them or I would have had a new bird.

Have a GREAT day!

Lola talks extremely well. African Grey's actually know what they are saying, as opposed to mimicking...they have cognitive speech. They have the intellectual capacity of a 5 year old child with the emotions of a 2 year old...so you can probably imagine how demanding Lola is! laugh

Even though most Grey's talk, there are many that never say a word their entire lives. Those that don't talk are just as smart as the ones that do, they just choose not to talk.
Greys are the most sought after of all the parrots because of their capacity to have a vocabulary of over 2000 words, and it's so sad to hear about people who get a Grey for that reason alone then just discard it if it doesn't talk. I would love Lola just as much and have the same relationship with her if she didn't talk as I do now.

Lola didn't talk until she was almost a year old, and I was beginning to think that she wasn't going to...her brother started talking when he was just 4 months old. But, once she started talking she never shut up...literally. laugh

kyangel...
It's nice to hear that you don't leave Gabby in her cage all the time, and she gets a lot of attention...especially after reading the PM you sent me about her previous life. I guess she feels like she's in heaven now!

My daughter called the other day really upset. She had taken my grandson to a motorcycle shop and there was an African Grey in a tiny little cage there, and it was so unhappy it had pulled all it's feathers out. She said it was completely featherless except a few little red feathers on it's tail. It broke her heart to see that.

She said they would start motorcycles up and the poor bird would start screaming and thrashing around in it's cage...it was so scared. ters

No...no one in this area cares much about how you treat your pets.

We have no SPCA, Humane Society...nothing.
All we have is a county employee who picks up stray dogs if someone complains about one.

I'd say it would just about kill her.
She is very spoiled, and I don't think she would like me paying attention to another parrot. But, you never can tell...she might love having a friend. Duh

i hate it when people mistreat birds. birds need loving just kike all other animals. people tink they can just put them in a cage and leave them. Gabby has a cage that is about 6'x4'x4' with a play land on top, then she has a travel cage too so we can take her with us to grandpa's and iter places too. she loves going to our store and loves riding in the truck. she has her travel cage too so she can go outside with us. and the same for our parakeet, we take both of them with us when we go to our families houses and even just out for a day of fun. they are both spoiled. we are wanting to get another parakeet and hopefully a couple more parrots. to me they are easy to take care of, and we love them. btw, afgreyparrot, where in ky are you?

You need to get her a child size sweeper, broom, dust pan, whisk broom, mop, etc..
to push around and clean up after herself..

I'm so proud of her...so proud of how healthy and pretty she is, and proud because she's my kid!

Night before last when Rachel and Brennan were here to eat, Lola kept begging for Rachel to hold her...and Rachel wouldn't...because she knew Lola was just trying to suck her in so she could bite her and laugh. Rachel said, "No, Lola...I'm not holding you...I don't care if you are my baby sister!" and Brennan said "Is she really your sister?" laugh shk

love the pictures of Lola and Gabby. We don't have a parrot rescue here in Virginia either but there is one in Maryland. If I can a car I'd have one of the rescued birds by now. But without transportation there is no way I can go up there and do the volunteer work necessary to earn a bird. Maybe next year. I'm sure they probably have a bird about my age that I could have as a companion.
