Thank heavens for Souther California members. It's just getting around to being winterlike around here. Which is scary since I have a apartment full of seedlings that are ready to transplant and I hadn't planned for that stage of development so am I in trouble lol.

And Sheri, That is the only name on that plant. I had never heard of it before so I had to buy it right? The tag says: Cool weather blooming. Protect from frost. Full sun to part shade. 15-23 inches. Regular water do not allow to dry out.
Use for spring patio containers, 6" or grouped in a larger pots. Or use as a bedding plant. Hardy to 45-55*

Beautiful flowers, Sheri!!!

I always think fondly of William Wordsworths poem about daffodils when I see them - it was a favorite of my mom's when I was younger and has stayed with me since.

"I WANDERED LONELY AS A CLOUD"
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
1804.

I planted those there a couple of years ago. I have tulips that usually come up first, but they've just started. I'm not sure how this is gonna work out this year with everything being early. Later in the summer snapdragons usually come up. I'll have to wait and see what it's gonna be this summer.

I just looked out the bedroom window and my row of forsythia is blooming. It's usually the first thing in the spring to bloom in my neck of the woods. Things are so out of order this year.

Thanks for the compliments. Tina the bloom is 4 inch's across has more buds and the purple one has another bloom opening . Cindy I have them in my hall useing full spectrum lights all winter. They are outside now getting some air and indirect sun getting ready to stay out after last freeze around March 14. Also had to put them out to put some Fish Emulsion on them to stimulate their roots. If I used that inside I wouldn't be able to stay in the house. Trent aleady gripes because I put water in the jug inside the house sure has a smell. laugh

Morning penny you could probably use some of this sun also. All my plants are on the porch now lows overnight will be around 58 so looks like I can leave them out overnight at least until Thursday when cold wave from Pacific is supposed to bring some of Tina and Patty's rain along with colder weather.

Yeh, they just add a bit of cheer at this time of the year I think. That big pole there is the birdhouse......I have Daffs, and Tulips, and Crocuses, and Glads planted in my birdhouse bed. The plan was always to put a smaller wood square in there...and make it 2 levels...but we never got that far... laugh

I grew alot of sunflowers this last summmer,
all different colors..
*the deers gave them a hair cut early in their lives, and gave them multiply stems, and had alot of heads, but they were smaller than some years...
But we especially enjoyed wathching the tiny birds come in and forage in the fall, it was just alive with little birds...
The boys got a kick out of it too!

Some one told me they would not bloom in the house. These were in the Iguana's room where I start my seeds. Of course I was told Tropical Hibiscus would not bloom in the house ether.

Regarding the second picture on the post with the crocus, I believe it might be a Miniature Iris because it kind of looks like the ones I have. Here is a picture if I can do it right.

Very pretty Patches and Sheri!!!

I love seeing all the spring bulbs flowering away!!!!

All of my crocuses are open now...last year I planted 100 of them, and I already had about 30.....everything else is right on schedule...tulips, daffs, and hyacinths, and iris are getting close to flowering. flw

Those are pretty too, Loz. They don't do so well in So. Cal. They're great the first year but peter out in the next years.

Triss, those flowers are spread out a far piece from each other. I would love them all together somewhere. And while I'm wishing, why can't they bloom all year?

Loz, aren't crocus's wonderful. So tiny, yet so beautiful.

And Tina, I can't believe you grow those callas in your yard. That's what my oldest daughter wanted everyone to carry in her wedding and we paid a pretty penny for them. And I'll take some columbine seeds if you have a lot.

Sheri,
How come you can't grow those Calla's???
Very curious??

I have a neighbor who says she can over winter them outside at the base of her house..
**I haven't seen them, but I know I can over winter a dahlia at the base of my house**
sooooooo, give 'er a try..
Find your Southern exposure, raised bed, at the base of your house, maybe with some kind of stone/cement/brick to keep some more heat in..

Tina, I might just take you up on that offerrrrr..
I love Columbinessssssssssssssss cool cool thumbup

Sheri, what time of year was your daughter's wedding? I would be hard pressed to find any between July thru December. But Jan thru June I usually have at least one or two. They take considerable cold.
Weezie, PM your addy.
