Free
You robbed me of my childhood,
My self worth and self esteem;
You kept me beaten down so long
That you almost stole my dreams.
I kept them hidden in my heart
Where you could never go,
And watered well by bitter tears,
They struggled hard to grow.
I broke the shackles that bound me--
Cold irons forged by the past;
From the anger, shame and sorrow,
I am free, I am free at last!
You robbed me of my childhood,
My self worth and self esteem;
You kept me beaten down so long
That you almost stole my dreams.
I kept them hidden in my heart
Where you could never go,
And watered well by bitter tears,
They struggled hard to grow.
I broke the shackles that bound me--
Cold irons forged by the past;
From the anger, shame and sorrow,
I am free, I am free at last!
