First of all, I was fixin' to make a bowl of oatmeal for me and Lola. But, thought I'd catch up on a few more topics first while I sucked some more coffee down.

Thanks to Bill and Jiffymouse I didn't think the consistency and texture of oatmeal was a good idea. So, I opted for cinnamon toast. thumbup

Bad idea! frown

I got a piece of bread and started to put some butter on it. Lola is sittin' on my shoulder going, "Yummm! Yummm!" because she LOVES cinnamon toast.
I see something black stuck into the crust of the bread. sca

I remove it...
...and it's a RAT TURD! shk shk shk

Bigger than life!

This is something that came from the place where the bread was made...not here! Couldn't have come from the store, because the bag was not chewed into.

So much for the cinnamon toast!
I am completely grossed out at this point.
Lola just had a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast.

Has anyone ever told you how many bugs are in the average Snickers Bar???

It would be impossible for a food factory to be 100% free of bugs or rodents....just because of the staples that they use to make the food. So there is actually an "ok" number of things that can be in a factory. Just a fact of life. nutz

Oh my gosh!!!!! I always knew that there were bugs and stuff in food places, because it'd be almost impossible to keep them out.....but Cindy, how absolutely disgusting for you shk .....you should call or email that company and tell them how disgusted you are........I'm wondering what kind of bread it is so I can avoid it at all costs.......GROSS......At least you didn't eat the rat poop though....... frown

A few weeks ago I was pouring a bowl of cereal and noticed something funny in it--thankfully before I'd eaten any......Mark and I came to the conclusion that it was a dried out partial mouse tail......I'd never had anything happen like that before.....totally disgusted me. It was the brand from a discount grocery store and I will never ever buy cereal there again as long as I live....Although Mark being a man still buys his there......he doesn't care...... laugh

I would definitely call the company ASAP - they will ask you all kinds of questions, such as the serial number on the package, date stamped, store where bought, etc - so they can do a thorough search into where it came from. Most companies will also send you coupons or something for your compensation. It's up to you, then, whether you want to get anything else from that company... But it does help them look into what is going on at the plants...

I once found something questionable in a jar of Progresso spaghetti sauce, called them, got tons of coupons, but never used them or their products again.

I've called a few companies with complaints about their products, and they were always very appreciative for the call, and always send coupons for future purchases.
Posted By: hisgal2 Re: Oh, man...this is bad! - April 30th, 2005 at 08:03 PM
I had to do that once with deodorant. I was allergic to the kind that I got....all of the different types look the same to me and I grabbed the invisible instead of the solid and I ended getting a rash from it. I got it at Sam's so it was a big pack. They asked me how many sticks was in the pack and then sent me that many "free" coupons. They didn't even want me to send the unused ones back...so I gave them to my mom.

Alot of companies will give you nice coupons if you call to tell them how much you like their products. I did that with Snapple when it first came out and they gave me 2 months worth of coupons....that was GREAT!

Then you will always know where your crap came from.
I gotta agree with you 100%, Duckie!

When I was married to Malcolm (12 years) we grew all our own vegetables (I canned and froze ALL summer long!), we had chickens for fresh eggs (it was one of those chickens that tried to kill me!), I baked all our bread, we didn't eat any meat.....and that was the healthiest point of my life.

Finding the rat poop in the bread today has prompted me to do some research on what is an "OK" number of gross stuff in the food I buy.

I will be eating differently after today.

Cricket sugar gliders make great pets. They need a lot of attention have bonding pouches you put them in. I take mine to Pets Mart etc in the pouch. As you can see I have too they were both discards I took in. Just like my birds and Iguana's were discards what I call throw aways. People get them then don't want them. Yes I'm a sucker for most animals. MY dogs were also abandoned my wife took in and found homes for all of Gods creatures.

Check this out, G-Mom...
...from a study of how much rodent poop was found in randomly tested stuff from the supermarket.
Quote
Rodent feces are known carriers of pathogens that cause human illnesses ranging from severe to deadly. Our discovery that the food chain in this country carries this degree of contamination is frightening.
You probably don't want to even hear what the amounts were. shk

Here's a list of key words I found...
food safety; food sanitation; disease prevention; rodents; food products; food analysis; food contamination; excreta; mice; human health; feces

I've been googling a lot of this stuff myself and I must say--it's totally disgusting.....makes me not want to eat anything at all---but I luv food too much.

And as far as fear factor goes I think they are all nutz for doing that stuff for a mere 50,000.......some of that stuff is soooooooo disgusting that I can barely watch them do it... frown Especially those madagascar hissing cockroaches, or those cave dwelling spiders, and laying in that box covered in rats.....ewwww.

Loz, the stuff that they eat on Fear Factor are actually things that people in places around the world eat. They have a staff specifically for going around the world and finding cultures who eat things that our culture wouldn't think of. Just on Oprah this week, she did her tour around the world and there was a place...might have been Norway...can't remember...maybe Greenland...they eat sheep testicles...and I've seen that on Fear Factor.

Since this thread was originally about gross stuff in food, I thought it would be a great place to post about the prank I pulled on Maxi this afternoon....

A few weeks ago he was given a small rubber brain that can fit in the palm of your hand. You are supposed to squeeze it as a stress reliever or to build up hand strength. Well, he'd forgotten he has it, so when I came across it today, I stuck it in my pocket.

Later, we were in the kitchen together and I was sitting sideways to where he was standing, so he could only see me from one side.

I put the brain in my opposite hand away from him, and held it up against the side of my head. I said "Gee, Maxi, I feel really sick. I feel like I might throw up! Oops, I think I am going to puke my brains out!" then I made a sound and tossed the brain in front of me.

He jumped back, laughing, and screamed "Mommy! That is so not right! That is so NOT funny!"

So of course, then he had to pick it up and show me all the other ways you could dispose of the brain out of the body....

At 9, he and his friends are all into body parts and body noises, so I knew he'd be hepped up about this prank, and he was.

ters Cindy your Freckles brought tears to my eyes she reminds me of our Ginger we had she followed me everywhere when I mowed I had to watch so she didn't get hurt. She followed like that until she got so old she couldn't then she would lay where she could watch me. She died at about 19 years old. Like the rest of our animals she was thrown away and Billie rescued her. At one time we had 28 dogs, 6 birds, 1 cat, 2Hampsters and about 80 Guinie (sp)pigs. So you see the animals I have now are not many compared. God will bless you for taking care of his animals I realy beleive this. smile smile
