We've had incredible weather in So. Cal. these past few days...Our "wild hillside" has burst into bloom and all the succulents have finally dried out after the relentless rain...Ah...Spring! grinnnn grinnnn grinnnn

Jillie - got any pictures of your "wild hillside" in bloom? Would love to see it! Duh He was home for 5 days this week during spring break, and got a parking ticket for parking in front of our house overnight. (I don't remember the exact dates that we are not allowed to park there - but I think it's April sometime) He INSISTS that winter is over and that it was ridiculous for them to have ticketed him!!! Of course that was the night that we got the surprise snowstorm for 3 hours, and even though nothing stuck to the roads, they did come around with the sanding trucks...

We are at -2C today, or about 30F I think, cloudy, and it looks like it might snow, but that is normal for us up here in Yukon!

I will just enjoy all your happy spring thoughts until sometime in late May early June when I can get back into my garden!

Just a little chilly here today...around 42. Breezy...which is normal for early March here. "In like a lion, out like a lamb". Partly sunny and tonight it started to spritz outside.

78 and sunny! planted out 2 tomato plants, a pot of marigolds, a couple of tulips (that I forgot about and were blooming in the house) and am getting ready to put out a trough of glads. still leery of putting anything in the ground 'till i get the basics on the landscaping done.

The weather has been beautiful here for the past couple of weeks. Its been in the high 70s, low 80s (one day was in the 90s, bit too hot for me for this time of year). Blue skies, light breeze, just a perfect time of year. I spent yesterday in the yard mowing the lawn, weeding, checking out all the new growth. I think I'm going to put a new bed in the front yard to add some curb appeal. Its too nice to not be outside. Spring has sprung in Ca., daffodils and tulips everywhere!! grinnnn
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: Weather Conditions II - March 15th, 2004 at 11:33 PM
I heard 2-4 inches here tomorrow afternoon Weezie!
And another 1-3 tomorrow night.

UNCLE!!!

I give up!!! My pansies are blooming, and the bulbs wanna come out and say hi.

I saw a bad accident on the thruway today -
3 young boys - fortunately none hurt, but at least 1 of the 2 cars was totalled - went through the guard rail to the other side of the road. sca The other car was smashed up against the rocks on the right side of the road.
I think this was due to Spring Fever - lots of cops, fire engines, and ambulances blasting sirens all day here today.
WHAT WE DO NOT NEED is more BAD WEATHER to make matters worse! eek

Oh this weather makes me sick.....it was almost 60 degrees on Monday. It's tuesday night now.....almost 1am, and we are supposed to get 4 inches of snow......I wouldn't mind it so much if I weren't outside in a t shirt yesterday. I'll be so glad when all the snow is gone!!!
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: Weather Conditions II - March 16th, 2004 at 02:56 PM
Loz ~ it was also near 60 here yesterday, and now they've updated our predicted accumulations to 4-8 inches...

wish I had more room to start seeds - that would keep me busy and my mind off what'll be going on outside...

Well, when I first got up this morning,
I thought oh, here we go again, but it's not
getting any worse.... or should I say, it's
just staying steady, so, I don't know.
They up'ed the levels to up to 14" in the Southern tier now, but, I think I'm high enough
*I'm Northern Southern Tier* so, maybe just 10".
We'll see!!!!!! sca sca sca

Snow on the ground today. My snow drops are frozen. eek I can't find my tulips, crocuses, daffodils, or lillies. Birdies are building a nest in my porch, that's cool. It was cold today...36 today. Its supposed to flurry or something tomorrow morning and then a wintery mix on Sunday, which is NOT good since I have to go Lancaster that day.

Posted By: hisgal2 Re: Weather Conditions II - March 19th, 2004 at 05:36 AM
Today is NOT promising here. They are telling us that we are supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow. They said it wouldn't start until 11:00, but we were at Denny's at 9:30 and it had just started to snow. eek The cats are getting restless....I'M getting restless. Today market was crazy...everyone is scared of the snow. They so much as mention the word in the weather forcast and all of the stores are instantly sold out of eggs, milk, and bread (why would everyone make french toast when it snows???? zzzzz

Weather here has been nice, hazy mornings, clearing to mid 70's by afternoon. Called my cousin who moved from here to Connecticut a year ago, she asked me if we were outside at the time of the call. "Of Course!" I answered. She said, and I quote: "If you love me, please don't tell me about the weather, please don't say anything." so I didn't. But I'm not always so nice; in the past I have called just to tell her I was drinking a Jamba Juice in the drive through of In-N-Out with the windows all down and the radio up. wink

Potted tulips are going to open all the way this weekend...potted iris' are showing themselves, hostas are sprouty, potted artichoke is getting BIG, and all is right with the world. Ahhhhh, Spring!

Jiff,
I think your weather's heading up my way
by the weekend!! It's suppoesed to be a whole
50*'s and then some!!!
I love the nice weather to come, but also dislike
it because it's still got snow in it's system, and
the poor flowers are out and and the cold weather nips then, (snow's not bad, it insulates it, but the freezing temp's squwish the flowers, don't hurt the bulbs for next year, but only this years flowers.)

It's 32*'s this morning!!

Then all the loading of luggage and kids - they didn't leave until 7:10... and NONE of us was dressed for this 20 degrees - BRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Lynne,
We got some sn*w here too, but it actually wasn't too bad, this time around!
It was that kind of snow that was as big as quarter's and white and fluffy but WET drippin' wet actually! It stuck a tiny bit to the grass, not to pavements/sidewalks, but I did hear that snow was coming in this weekend coming up, and it's has a possibility of sticking :p ters but I would think that most of it is reasonable behind us!!

It rained all day here today. I have water in my basement....again. Its pretty much a normal thing when it rains. I'm waiting for my plants to come from Gurney's. I will be planting them on the south side of my house to try to help with the drainage on that side. My lilies are coming up. The leave, not the flowers. Hyacinths continue to come and my daffodils are looking good.

I didn't bother to tell him that, because of the never-ending rain, I finally had that water feature (pond!) in the front yard that I have been wanting!

Or sift my compost, love doing that in the cold weather, you don't get as hot with all that sifting I do!!!!

Never miss an opportunity to be thankful you are alive!!!
And it will be warming up soon!!!

I lost my favorite henryii clematis that I grew from seed to a freeze after 3 straight weeks of beautiful spring weather, 65 to 73 degrees. Weather man said spring was here & it wasn't going anywhere. I believed him so I jumped the gun & planted my baby outdoors & it died from the snow storm we got the very next day...so I got spooked, didn't plant another thing until yesterday. Yesterday it was low 70s & today we have hit 79 degrees. It better stay nice, because I put my nelly moser in the ground today & if I lose her I am going picket the weather man's office at the local tv station & tell everyone what a dumbas* he is lol...or maybe I'm the dumbas* for even listening to a weather man at all lol laugh
Posted By: obywan59 Re: Weather Conditions II - April 15th, 2004 at 10:35 PM
Are you sure it's dead? I had a Jacmanii that the wind tore all to bits last fall. There was nothing left above ground. But just yesterday I saw a shoot of it peeking up above the ground. I'd give it a little time before giving up.
Posted By: Chrissy Re: Weather Conditions II - April 16th, 2004 at 01:02 AM
I would sure love it if it weren't dead...nothing left above ground & we did get a freeze that night that tore up my little hosta sprouts too, but they are popping back up, so maybe the henryii will too...I will keep an eye out for signs of life:) Thanks for the tip flw

Hope obywan is right...I did the exact same thing. I'm right below you. My clematis had SO much growth...then the freeze. I dug it back up and brought it inside. Still no signs of life, but I still water it and talk to it, and move it from one window to the next. That same weather got me excited, too. I also lost 3 new hygrangeas I had set out, one with flowers already started on it as big as silver dollars. Like a dumda** I set out a lot of stuff today. It frosted heavy last night, but the weather guesser on T.V. says it's gonna be up to almost 80 for the next week. Hope your clematis lives. Let me know!

I'll let you know how she fairs...hopefully she will be fine, if not I am going to kick my own [BLEEP] lol laugh I lost one of my nikko blue hygrangeas in the frost too:( I felt really bad about that one also, but it was a wally world purchase, so I didn't have as much invested in it as I did my henryii grown from seed. I like your term for the weather man "the weather guesser" lol laugh , that is perfect!

11:15 Am and 71 degrees and sunny! I decided this morning that I was going to compost the garden (finally a nice day that is NOT a market day!!). I hauled 2 boxes down the hill to the garden, unloaded it and spread it and that's it! Its just too hot for me. I might have been out there for 15 minutes and I'm already sun burnt!!! mad I'm just going to have to wait until this evening when it gets cooler to do this....and maybe invest in a whell barrow!!! laugh My compost pile's palets are starting to rot, so I think I will build a new one VERY VERY close to teh garden!!!!!! teech

It's been beautiful here too. 79 degrees & it is only 11am. The weather guy is calling for thunder storms this evening & winds in excess of 50 miles per hour, so I think I will be plopping 5 gallon buckets over many of my plants tonight before the storm hits. Good thing my husband is an assistant foreman at a bucket factory...I have thousands of buckets in my garage lol thumbup

4:44 and 87 degrees. WAY too hot for me!! I like it cooler. Although, humidity is only like 46%, so that's nice.

I'm back home!Lake was nice...windy and cloudy and ovrcast all week.I got to see the sun on the way home& now its rain.rained saturday off& on and is now pouring by the buckets& really really hope it don't mess my hill up cause the tractor is makeing noise.I set out 4 plants of herbs from a trade and they are currently being pored on as a welcome(lemen mint, catmint, valerian& wild bergamont)my rose tree topiarys are in bloom and my alhoa roses are just loaded(well by now maybe a lil less petals)its 68& hazy and 100% humidity& seem to have almost 3 inches of new rain today and is only 12:21..........so we gonna be quite wet& have mini lakes in yard.don't think will have a watering need today.

It rained all night here last night, Cold (ish)
and windy most of the day, and then around
5:00pm, the sun broke through the clouds,
turned out to be a reasonably nice night,
but they are calling for sca SNOW shk :p
We'll see, it did say for the higher elevations,
but we're real close to that!!!!

But after that, it's suppose to start being a little more seasonable in a day or two, in the 50's and low 60's!!

After graduation he will be transferred to Sheppard Air Force base near Whitita Falls, Texas.

I didn't have any ice here, but the temperature dropped to about 30. No frost though, at least not on the ground. I saw a bit on the roof of my cars.
I think that's the last frosty weather in the forecast now for the next 10 days, so I'm taking all my tender plants back outside.

It snowed here in Indiana for about 15 minutes yesterday & was in the low 40s all day long. Then this morning I woke up to 68 degrees & full sunshine...looks like it is going to be a hot one today. This weather is so freaky this time of year.

HEAVY frost here last night.
Going outside in a few minutes to check on the damage to my plants. Covered all I could. I'm sure I'll be back in here crying in a few minutes!

I got ice not frost mad I think alot of the trees I colected for bonsai aren't going to make it. I had to take them when I did tough because all the buds are opening cause the days are so warm and if all the sap goes up into the tree then the roots won't grow back. It's a pretty horifying technique but it's to save trees from the forests that they're tearing down and blowing up so that I'll have a kind of tribute. Just so you under stand how it goes I chop down the tree to about a foot cut the big thick roots off that wont help take in water at all and in a couple months little shoots come out and you train them to hide the trunk.
I think the "frost" was about an inch or two thick. My clover seems to be pushing through this crummy weather, frost all week and every day it looks as though it's come up more thumbup ...
Haven't realy taken a look today though.
It's not going to get much higher then 9C today but tomorrow's supposed to go up to 20C.
I think that's about 70 for you united statians.
Sounds like we got about the same weather weezie. gab

I was able to tell the "weather" what to do today!
(Only backwards sorta)
I came out side with a sweatshirt on, and all of a sudden, it got sunny out.... I did a bit of compost sifting and it was HOT, so I went and got a lighter shirt on and next thing I know it got cool again, so I decided to go make lunch.......
It was still cool at the end of lunch so we put on the warmer shirts, and out we went, and the next thing we knew it was hotter than blue blazes!
So, we got the cool shirts on again!!!
That lasted awhile, and I thought to myself "it was a nice day out side, but sure could use some rain", cause the ground is crackin' and guess what happened next??????
It got all dark and it rained!!!! thumbup flw

HOT HOT HOT!
spent yesterday at Disney's California Adventure, perfect day, NO LINES... the longest line was 15 minutes and that was for the river raft ride. We put swimsuits on the little ones, under their clothes. anytime we got too hot, off to the sprinkler areas to play. we balanced indoor stuff (shows) and outdoor stuff (rides). Slathered on the sun block, drank LOADS of water and had a great time. But boy was it HOT.

I've been a good girl and watering every morning, my front yard is looking so pretty, one of my friends came over Saturday and was teasing me saying she had to stop and "tour the garden" before she rang the bell. I only have one flower bed. but at least what I have is getting compliments. I'm swellin' with pride since I'm such a newbie. Now, if I could just get that back yard lawn to be green... one step at a time...
Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - May 5th, 2004 at 04:37 AM
Yeah, don't it feel god when people compliment you on your beautiful plants? The Fed Ex guy comes here once a month to bring a package for Lola. Today he couldn't believe how the yard has changed since a month ago. He said, "I can't believe you've done all this and have all this new stuff growing so fast! It's beautiful!" He said "How do you find time to do all this? Do you work anywhere?"
I told him "Yeah, in the YARD!!!"

Got down to 32 last night. I was a maniac on a mission covering things up til 1 a.m.

Hi everyone. Thought you might like to know what the weathers like in England. We've had a lot of rain this week, even some hail stones. The temperatures about 12centigrade. It's about 4.55p.m. and sitting here looking out of my window the sky looks very dark.

I'm feeling pretty jealous reading about some of the fantastic temperatures you're writing about on here!

We had a beautiful day today here in Northeast Indiana, low 80s all day & nothing but clear skies. Tonight we are having one of the worst thunder & lightning storms I have ever witnessed. There is so much lightning it looks like it is 12 noon & it is nearly midnight. The sky is so lit up. I probably shouldn't be on this computer, but the storm is keeping me awake because my dog keeps barking at the thunder lol.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Weather Conditions II - May 8th, 2004 at 05:51 AM
Chrissy, we just had a doozy of a thunderstorm here this afternoon......probably the same line that you had.....It got so dark outside all my electric candles in the windows came on.....the wind was whipping, the rain was torrential......It passed through fairly quick......at least all the plants got a really good water.

Before it passed through it was really hot today......humid and sticky......the storm really cooled it down.....

Posted By: Anonymous Re: Weather Conditions II - May 24th, 2004 at 05:44 PM
Humid, Humid, Humid.......and Hot!!!! 100 percent humidity.....It's partly sunny today....

I don't mind the heat, it's the humidity that gets you.....the air is just so heavy.....

We've had tons and tons of rain here lately.....we were under flood watch the other day but luckily downtown didn't flood. About 30 miles away an emergency dispatcher saw a tornado form and touch down.....very briefy and then it broke up. The thing is, this is the mountains of western MD.....we aren't supposed to get tornados here.....about 6 years ago we had 4 or 5 of them around here....one being an F4 that caused a lot of damage. People have said that we are only supposed to get a tornado once every 100 years here or something--freak things....With the mountains around here if we had one in my town it would bounce around in the valley I guess.....Never heard of one going up a mountain before. Duh

We have isolated thunderstorms on just about every day of the week--or we did, the weather channel changes things so much sometimes I wonder if they know what they are talking about....

Karen

Just a wee question - seeing as you live in an area that like Vegas depends to some degree on tourism.

Here in Vegas the themometer usually measures several degrees higher than is reported/recorded. We take the assumption it is for the tourist trade -- "tell them its cooler than it actually is so they won't feel so bad." It is NEVER more than 116F even if the thermometer "unofficially" tops 120+.

Do you experience something similar there????

Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - May 27th, 2004 at 04:58 PM
We've had quite a few bad tornados here the past several years. My daughter must attract them, or something! Two years ago she lived in an apartment in town, and a tornado ripped through her neighborhood and destroyed a shopping mall a block away from her, and EVERY house near hers was damaged, some totally blown apart. The apartment beside hers had the entire roof taken off, but it didn't do a thing to the apartment she was in! She gets pretty freaked out when there is a storm where she works. Her office is HUGE, and there is nothing but glass about 30 feet high on three sides. She didn't even see the one yesterday. They seem to destroy everything around her, but she's always safe! (Hmmm...that's weird. nutz ) Andy just called from town and said the place was swarming with emergency task force units, and T.V. news crews everywhere because of the ones we had during the night that I was totally oblivious to! (Better cut back on the pain medication, huh?)
Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - May 28th, 2004 at 03:06 PM
WOW!!! We had more bad tornados last night about 70 miles from here (in Lexington). Wiped out an entire subdivision. They just showed some video on the t.v., and there were 2 X 4's sticking out of the sides of houses that had been impaled into them! So much rain and storms here in the last few days. Andy has gone to get the dozer to fix the destruction here. We have 18 inch deep trenches down the driveways from the rain.
Did I say a few days ago in a post that I wished it would rain here??? O.K. I'm sorry. I take it back!

Yep,
We're getting it here too,
the rain, no tornado's
*which by the way, I send lot's and lot's of angell angell angell angell to them for days the days ahead and reconstruction*
The back yard in areas' was up to my ankle's....
*the over flow off of the road goes directly between my mom's and my property line, and straight back, veer's to the left in front of my lilac tree and out to the back by the back shed and swingset!!
It's a river, no lie, through on really hard down pours, luckily, I mapped it out early as to the flow and only put wet loving plants thru there and all seems happy as long as I dont walk thru it.

And its supposed to get very chilly tonight, lower 30's :p frown mad Well, by the end of the next two weeks the garden will be finish, so, shouldn't be too many more days of lower cold temps.

We are known as the snowbelts of WNY, lot's of times before the Blizzard of '77 put us on the map, we here in the south towns, would think nothing of getting 16" to 18" in a 7 or 8 hour period..In '79 when I started working (9/ to 4:30am) It snowed like that allllllllll the time, no plows out, and no traffic out there to even follow a path home and it was incredible, you learn how to drive in weather like that or else you end up in alot of snow banks or worse)

Lynne,
I hope you fair a little better with the temp's!!!
You're a higher zone than me, so you should be alright! thumbup

How are you feeling today????
Stay under those cover's, and keep warm, it'll be warmer than you want it to be in a short time.
*And work on getting that greenhouse*

Brrr Weezie.....you're making me cold just reading your posts......lol I'm kind of in the same situation.....we are a few miles from the base of the highest elevation in the entire state.....there is a ski resort at the top of that mountain too....it's like another world up there......

It's about 56 degrees here right now this morning, but it promises to be a beautiful day I think.....the sun is shining.....I'm happy about that--the plants need some sun!!!! grinnnn

Lynne, how are you feeling? Strep throat is no fun.....
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: Weather Conditions II - May 29th, 2004 at 05:22 PM
Weezie and Loz... thanks for your well wishes. Can you believe I have to wait until next Friday to find out the results of my throat culture??? Because it's a holiday weekend, and the test takes 3 days, and my dr. is closed on Thursdays... sheesh! I don't think I got the strep part of what my daughter had, but my ears feel like glue! frown Anyway, the nice dr. gave me antibiotics so hopefully they'll kick in soon. Only problem with that is, I'm sooooo sensitive to them, they tear up my stomach.

It's sooooooooo windy and cold here today.
Not quite as bad as where Weezie is though! shk
I didn't check the temperature on my deck until 10 this morning - it was 50. I know it was much colder than that overnight - especially with the wind.

Weezie... how did your plants fare overnight?
Wish I DID have that greenhouse already.
I have so many seedlings that I still have to get outside - they are getting really leggy in the house. :p
(Unfortunately, my son ate up most of the greenhouse money doing very foolish stuff at college and needing to make-up 3 classes this summer - cost us a pretty bundle!!! mad eek frown )

I hope the wind slows down a bit this afternoon so I can do at least a little planting on my sunny deck. I (and the plants) are really craving some vitamin D badly by now...

Hi All, Luckily for us the weather hasn't been all that cold. We have no Furnace. The old oil one gave out and we were slowly being poisoned. All the aches and pain's we were having goes along with the side affect's of it. So I had THOUSAND'S of $$$$$ worth of test's done and it was the Monster in the basement. Phil will warm the house up for me before I come home from work if he think's I will be cold. Oven and a space heater. Just long eneough to take the chill out. Other wise we have had MORE rain here then we need. I think if we get any more we will grow Feather's and turn into Duck's. laugh laugh laugh Laura
Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - May 31st, 2004 at 04:13 AM
You are lucky you found the problem before it DID hurt you bad! Some people here in the fall turned their gas heat on, and didn't realize that the vent in the roof was covered up with plastic. (It was a rent house.) They all died...an entire family. So sad!

Right now tornados are all around the county I live in, and we are under warnings. If I'm not here tomorrow you'll know what happened to me!!

(Loz...I'll try to remember to click the heels of my ruby slippers three times and say, "There's no place like home!")

The weather down here is awful. Hot and Humid. Yesterday the news said our high was 96(my outdoor thermometer read 110 in the shade) I work outside and its killing me. I now carry a sprinkler with me and when I'm landscaping I hook it up and walk through it to cool off(I make sure I wear a DARK SHIRT laugh ) Normally down here when it gets this hot and humid we get late afternoon storms that cool things down and waters the plants. We have not had a measureable amount of rain in over a month. Everything is DRY! My water bill will probably be quadruple eek
There are wildfires popping up everywhere, there is one 5 miles from my house as we speak(not too big, yet) We have a burning ban in effect and they are talking about water restrictions again.

WE NEED A BREAK!!

Man, we had some tornados last night! The worst came through about 1 to 2 a.m. I thought the house was going to just blow apart. Poor Lola was in her bedroom hollering for me to get her, but I was so afraid that if something bad happened (like the roof flying off the house!), that she would be blown away and I'd never find her, so I had to leave her in her cage. I felt so sorry for her. She was scared.

Haven't been outside, but can see from the windows that we have shingles ALL over our yard! Andy hasn't slowed down all day, coming and going with the heavy equipment. Must be a lot of damage pretty close to us, because he didn't load the backhoe on the truck, just drove off on it after he got back from taking the dozer somewhere. We were blessed!
Posted By: rue anemone Re: Weather Conditions II - June 1st, 2004 at 03:09 AM
Whew! what a day, yesterday. We had 25 family members over and then the tornadoes came through. One hit just blocks south of us and very close to the house of some of the family. No damage for our family.

One trailer park devastated.

We had one of the families spend the night, the mom had her 4 kids with her, but not her hubby. The bad weather just kept coming and coming.

The rains after the tornado where very heavy, almost 4 inches.

hoping everyone is ok - - seems like this whole new century has been full of bad news on the weather front.
Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - June 1st, 2004 at 11:02 PM
So sad! It flooded so bad after all the storms we've had, especially the one that spawned the worst of the tornados, that hundred of cows and horses drowned in the neighboring counties. They were showing them on the news last night, fighting and treading water trying so hard to keep their heads above the water. Men were out in boats rescueing what they could. The baby cows and horses were trying to stay by their mommys, and the mommys were trying to help them. But, most of them drowned. 50 in one field at a horse farm.

They're giving more tornado warnings on t.v. right now, headed this way. Never seen anything like it here before.
Posted By: rue anemone Re: Weather Conditions II - June 3rd, 2004 at 10:20 PM
That is so sad about the animals drowning. That was shown on the news here in IN.

We had just one death from the storms, an elderly man in a trailer. Maybe trailers should be outlawed in tornado states.

The weather has been absolutely beautiful since the storms passed.

well when that tornado hit indy south side was 1 mile from my bro in law.he said it looked sooo bad out.they went into neighbors basement and the dogs kenneled up.we here in TX didn't get no tornado that day but our power was knocked out and I had candles everywhere and almost ran a cord to the garage to the generator so could finish watching movie on sci fi but when the wind about knocked me over I changed my mind.Remeber now.i live in the boonys in the woods and it was very very very very dark when the lights went out.if i was to touch my finger to my nose i would NOT have seen it.When lost power was putting on shoes to take wheel barrel to burning pile& sooo glad i did not make it to the door cause I would NOT have made it back to any known object.Hubby wanted me to get flash light and told him your sitting down& know what direction you are faceing...you get it.had to have flash light to even locate the candles to light to even HAVE light.we stood on porch amazed at how dark it is without the security light we gripe about blinding us if the shades are open at night.LOL.
it has been real hot& humid for almost 2 weeks as haven't had much rain.got almost 4 inches yesterday& a few days b4 that was 2 1/2 inches and had wind with that.Oh and was a tornado in Whartn TX its down west of houston off 59 somewheres looked it up on atlis.my plants sure took off when we hit the 90s get brief rain just about daily just had our 50 rain drops earlier about 3 when was mowing lawn...didn't even stop mowing& it felt good.plus hubby scared the crap out of me in pool...I was under water with the pool vacume and he pulled my toes.I choked on some water and threw some back at him.I though he was still weed eating. He's tractoring now on some spots on road that were hard as concrete the other day now that we got enough rain to soften stuff up.
and HEY!!! Its hurricane season now.I'm waiting on the 1st storm to form.I'm excited.those winds will clean some dead wood out of my trees.LOL wavey

We had 3 thunderstorms today, 2 were really bad ones.!
The two shook the ground so hard, I couldn't believe it.
I thought after the first one went thru, we could call it a day, but then later the second one came thru!
We need the rain though!
Just wish it didn't fall so hard so fast, it' just rolls off the roads.

And we went for a nature hike with the boyscouts and we got a few sprinkles on us later....
Nothing too bad!

I thought the same thing for tomorrow here too!!!

We've gotten some hard rain the last couple of days, mostly morning but coming down hard. Some of my plants really needed it but some others seem to be having a hard time. My zinnias are drooping over, for some reason.

It was one of those days where it rained alllllll day, but it was a nice warm day and warm rain, not cold and damp. (I dislike those days with a passion)
Very nice day for transplanting and planting!!!
And that's what I did allllllllll day!

And pullin' weeds, next best thing to do on days
like this!

Also, I potted up my Gloriosa Lilies and morning glories and some of them darn seeds I started!

I have to find a way to heat that green house up, so I can get an earlier start next year?????
None of the one's I've started have flowers on them yet! *for flowers*
Of course I did those last.

We walked home from school in the down pour,
and we were walkin' in the mud puddles, and we got tons of looks, either, oooooooooooh, how cute or look at those dumbies....Poor kids don't stand a chance with a mother like that!
OOh what fun! We were wet and muddy by the time we got home, but I love days like that.
We are supposed to have this for the weekend too!
Hope so!

It just keeps raining! frown And, yep, supposed to rain here until July 5...man! And, what sucks even more about it is not only am I not accomplishing anything outside and trying to go back to work, but the weekend of the Fourth, we (my husband is in a band named NoneTheLess) have 3 shows to do in 3 days & 2 of them are outside ters So, looks like a lot of computer time coming up, LOL smile

Iowa,
Find a liquid fertilizer with a high middle number..
That will help your plant to blossom and produce fruit and will help the roots get stronger to feed more fruit!!!

Even with the low temp's, this will help..

I use Shultz Plus 10~60~10 as a liquid I pour over my plants and Spray~n~Grow as a foliar spray.

But, any should do fine!

These are my NEIGHBOR'S trees, and they all fell into my yard. Destroyed the fence and a lot of my plants, but missed all the vehicles and house! The tree in the last photo is covering one of my prettiest gardens, and the pet cemetery.

No, these were the "Good Neighbors"!
Best next-door neighbors anyone could ask for!

We've been having a lot of "freak" storms here the past few weeks. Guess it's my own bad fault, since I seem to be a FREAK MAGNET!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Weather Conditions II - July 11th, 2004 at 07:16 PM
Glad you have some nice neighbors on one side at least......how are you going to clean the trees up????? I hate bad storms when I'm alone, that freaks me out!!!! But, when my hubby is home I love them.....lol
Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - July 11th, 2004 at 07:34 PM
Yesterday Andy and a guy that works for him cut them up, loaded them in the dumptruck with the backhoe, and hauled them out to my farm and dumped them in a big pond we drained and are filling back in a little at a time. (Guess that would be an ex-pond!) It was several truck loads. Would have been good firewood, but no one wanted to mess with it.

The "bad neighbors" had some tree damage a few years ago and we didn't clean it up for them!!!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Weather Conditions II - July 11th, 2004 at 08:19 PM
A pond sounds really nice..... smile

How did your plants do that were under the tree? And was your fence damaged? Glad he came and hauled them away fast! thumbup
Posted By: afgreyparrot Re: Weather Conditions II - July 11th, 2004 at 08:47 PM
I love my ponds! But, they are all at the farm, which is about 10 miles from where I live now. When my daughter turned 21, I gave her 5 acres to build on at the farm. Andy built a huge pond that bordered her 200' long driveway before it curved up to her house, that sat on a hill overlooking the pond. One winter morning she went out to start her car to let it warm up, then went back inside. When she went back out to get in the car, it slid down her driveway (she hadn't gotten into it yet) and landed in the pond, completely submerged. Andy took the backhoe out the next day and drained my big, beautiful pond that he had worked so hard building the year before! ters It freaked him out thinking about what could have happened if Rachel had been in the car.

My plants were destroyed for this year, but they were all perrenials, and will be back next year!
Posted By: weezie13 Re: Weather Conditions II - July 12th, 2004 at 05:54 AM
I was wondering about your plants too Cindy!!!!
I am glad to hear they will be back next year.

I have heard some storms and such have been going thru that area!!!

Knock on wood, we haven't had any bad one's
this year!!

We've had some good thunderstorms here lately, and rockin' and rollin' thunder and lightenin'!

Almost too good to be true weather actually!
Nice summer days, not too hot, oh once in a while but not constant... rain alot at night, thumbup and nice breezes!!!

It's been unusually cool here today.....low 70's and absolutely NO humidity, which has to be a freak of nature....lol It's always so sticky here.....actually, technically it's the cold brisk air coming down from canada.....Speaking of canada did you all see that place on the weather channel that got 2 feet of hail???? OMG, I couldn't believe that...freaky, freaky weather.....they were out shoveling it in shorts.....

Supposed to rain this weekend, but I really want another hot day so we can get back to the state park and go swimming in the pool....Nothing better than swimming on a really hot day! thumbup

Well, I'm not that far from you Loz, being in WV. Our temps were still in the 80's, but low humidity yesterday. It was so much nicer!! And today, it's supposed to be even better, and maybe slightly cooler. I think they predict high 70's, low 80's for our high here today. flw And then rain over the weekend.. but today, should be boootifuuuul.

Oh, I feel so bad for you after reading how HOT it is there! Can you imagine Texas in the 1800's when women wore those long, heavy dresses with long sleeves and tons of petticoats? (I watch too many Gunsmoke re-runs! laugh )

It is a beautiful, cool, foggy morning here in the Bluegrass. And, the last two nights were the perfect kind for sitting outside on the deck with a glass (or bottle) of wine, watching the sunset.

Yeah, was very hot here this weekend. I had a garage sale & got sunburned. After getting ready for the sale on Thursday then doing it on Friday & Saturday...I just relaxed on Sunday - well, kinda, LOL. I did get out & do some weeding and a little raking but stayed inside most of the day. Sunday was a little cooler, for the most part.
Posted By: lilitu Re: Weather Conditions II - July 20th, 2004 at 01:10 AM
actually for us "midstaters" the heat index was 110 degrees the other day,(at least in Omaha) it was really only 90 something. THese are the days I am glad I have central air, but would rather have an ocean cool
Supposed to be the same tomorrow with about 10-15 mph winds. Wind is sometimes nice...however it ate up my beautiful white hibsicus..and of course no one will buy it now mad
This past Saturday was the first in a long time that hasn't rained...I was almost disappointed.

Njoynit,
That must have been quite cooooooool!
I would have loved to have seen that,
don't believe I've ever seen anything like that before?? Duh
But sounds neat!

Here in N.Y. it rained in the morning, and then in the afternoon, it rained again..........
And for a change this evening, it rained again!
Hmmmmmmmm, something on the dry side would be nice.
I guess this Wednesday is the only day this week in the forecast for it NOT to rain! ters
Thank goodness my veggie beds are raised!!!
I'd be growing rice if we got much more of it and they were on the ground!!!

Yes, very hot! And I've been out in it nearly all day, since 9am, with a few breaks here & there. I'm starting a bed to put the purple bearded irises in (that bestoffour sent to me cool ) but everything is slower & harder with just one hand. My husband has helped some but there are other things to be tended to, that he has been helping with. We started the bed yesterday evening and ran out of daylight. I'm sunburned from today, waiting for him to get back from unloading his musical equipment, then we're back at it til dark. Normally, I'd post more details about why the bed is taking so long & so much work, but it sucks typing one-handed & have typed alot already.

Maybe it'll rain tomorrow (yeah, right!) laugh

Karen........I'm in NC and it's heading this way, from the weather reports on the radio..........batton down the hatches! We just went out and bought a generator this weekend, as this is our first season here in NC.........corse, I didn't want to spend the money right now, but would rather have the generator than go without water for a week! Hope this is a mild storm! Good luck.......keep us posted!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Weather Conditions II - August 2nd, 2004 at 01:34 PM
Its not supposed to be a bad storm, just alot of rain and wind.
2 years ago we suffered a citywide blackout that lasted 12 hours. We had a generator that kept us in lights. It was funny though cause my husband hooked up lights outside and the whole neighborhood ended up at my house. The next day some people complained that it wasn't fair that we had lights and they didn't. They seemed to think it had something to do with me working for the company that runs this place. We had the foresight to purchase a generator and it made them mad!

Let us know how it goes, when it gets there!

Been there, done that!
Learned my lesson, too!
As well as stuff disappearing, you end up with a bunch of NEW crap that you don't even need! Then try to remove it! Ha! It says it's sharing files with something else, blah, blah, blah...!

The weather here today was wonderful. Sunny, breezy, cool. I hope we don't have rain for a while because we are raising the back of our house tomorrow. Or rather, we're starting to raise the roof. It won't be finished for a couple of days. Pray for us.
