So this might be one of those flowers that most of you will know- I just don't have a clue though...

Can we see the bottom of it...
Like the leaves and how it comes out of the ground??

It looks like a foxglove to me...

There's some leaves on the bottom right

do they look similar, sorta????

Your picture is of the flowers at the very
top, mine are just starting..
so there may be a slight difference..

Your flowers seem to be in the shape of bells that sort of hang right? Mine are very close to the stem and are bunched together quite tightly. I have hubby going to take a picture of it pretty quick; one of the ground/ leaves and a close up of the stem/ top flowers.

when mine start out, they look like bells..

But yours is a Double stem..
*meaning both sides*

I'm pretty sure it's the same..

but that's why I'd like to take a peak
at the leaves..

Ok so here are a few more pictures... Foxglove is looking pretty good to me now that I saw the leaves...



Please mind the droop- it's a blazing hot day today and it seems the morning/ mid afternoon sun got to it (Hubby is watering them now)


Here is a picture of it closer up... My hubby is taller than me and it appears they are bell shaped too- my height approx. 1 1/2 feet below him takes a different picture it seems!

Yep, that's a FoxGlove..
*See inside the bell of the picture you took,
see those spots/dots.. that's a sign of a foxglove.*

Moving it?????
Older foxgloves resent being moved...
*they have a good sized tap root once established..*

I move small one's with no problem..
But never moved the big ones...

Do you have time to let those big ole seed pods brown up and give you about a ba~zillion new plants?????

If you can, once they turn brown, dry up, up can then rototil up a nice spot, sprinkle a pod or two over the top of the exposed dirt/soil and you should see babies sprouting there by fall time...

***I have never cut down one while it's still green *that big stalk* so I can't advise one way or the other on that, to cut it down early??***

Well sorta...

Go back and look at your picture,
*or even the plant*

Look at the stem..

Where each flower WAS,
there's a green pod...

That pod, will mature in time,
*I'd say about 3,4~8 weeks*
and some may even start to open
up a bit, almost like a clam shell..

They'll be ready to be EVER SO GENTLY,
pull off the pod..
Or most of the time I leave the whole stalk
and just shake where I want them..

But you will get 100's of seeds per one pod...

You can even pot up some REGULAR GARDEN SOIL,
*no potting soil needed, they like plain soil*
and sprinkle some of those dried seed pods on top of the dirt..

I do it in little 6 pks, or 2" pots, fill with soil, then sprinkle on top of dirt, and leave outside over winter... so they get their "chilling time" they require to grow..

And come spring time watch 'em grow...

*do this in the end of summer/fall time and they will get a start on their foliage (*should*) and then come this time next year, should bloom.*

Thank you sooo much! .... especially for spelling it out for me; I've never dealt with Foxglove before. That is exactly what I'm going to do- in 4-8 weeks from now sprinkle the seeds on some soil in 2" pots and winterize!

Those are one of my most favoritest flowers..
My Granny used to grow those...
and we used to pull the bells off of them
and make skirts for dresses for flower dolls..

Since you helped me ID the flower, I've being looking everything up online. I was shocked to read it is poisonous- any special precautions you know of that I should take when taking seeds? I also have a new puppy so this plant is definitely out of our back yard and into the front yard....

I really have never heard of any special
treatment handling the seeds...

I believe, it would be eating/digesting any part of the plant that would give you the problem..
*I would advise to wash your hands maybe
after gathering or sowing the seeds, but I am not sure you have to go that far, I can't remember doing it myself*
but better safe than sorry........

I have had dogs up on the hill, and we lived next door to my grandmother who had these, and
no dog ever got after them...
Not to say, all dogs are the same..
I would suggest just basically to keep a small eyeball on the pup, and make sure he's not gotten into it at some point..

You'd be suprised that there is alot of poisonous plants to people/animals there are...
