Also found this on my walk... I had seen a small one before in a vacant lot and it has been mowed down, so I can't find it yesterday, but this is the same thing only HUGE!

definitely a palm. don't know which one (there are SO many!) very pretty!! hopefully someone will know what it is...and then i'll be able to see if it's hardy in my area...

Hmm, looks like a young Longleaf Pine tree to me.

It is a longleaf pine! Now I feel really silly about sitting down today on the side of the road and digging it up to bring home...
