This was growing in our garden between the tomatos and corn plants. It is a pretty, little ferny thing.
Dianna
Oh...I've seen this here before - someone put it up not too long ago. Course I can't remember who or what it was
Are the flowers white? Looks like it from here.
Yep, Mary. They are teeny, tiny little white flowers. I didn't plant them so don't know where they came from.
Dianna
I wonder if it's some kind of asparagus?
We didn't plant it. We didn't plant our watermelon/pumpkin, either though so anything is possible!
Dianna
Birds are kind to us that way
Any way you could get a closer pic? (I know I wouldn't be able to, but figured I'd ask anywho)
I got it all over my yard too in the back where the grass doesn't grow good
Sorry, Mary. That is the only pic I have. We bush-hogged the garden to put it to rest for the winter months.
Belinda, could you take close-up pic of yours and post it here?
Dianna
to put it to rest for the winter months
It still hasn't settled in my head yet, that summer is near over....it's still pretty warm out, and no chill in the air like I'm used to in September...but <sigh> I guess it is that time...
I'm sure one of our many gardening gurus will be through and ID it for you..sorry I couldn't help
Thanks for trying, anyway, Mary.
Dianna
I think you've got some Wild Irish Moss
Scroll down about half way..
and click on the picture to get a better look at it..
A. verna / irish moss
Thank you, Weezie!
I believe that is it.
I will show it to Jim when he gets home from work.
Dianna
We bush-hogged the garden
Ummmm, I live in California...what does that mean?
....tilled under??? let the hogs in the garden???
It is like mowing, Catlover, except it whacks it off instead of giving it a clean cut appearance...
Still cuts, but not as low as a mower.
Dianna
Thank you!
Now I can follow the conversation!
Ah very cool to know what it is! So much for asparagus
Am I a lost cause or what?
Hey Weezie...wasn't Irish Moss what Jillie was testing out....remember she was planting it with another moss with a slightly lighter color....making wavey lines with it in some smaller bonzai looking pots.????? It was really pretty.
Mary, Depends on what a
consists of!
I'm JUST KIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDING!
I didn't even know what a bush hog was. Looked up the images and all I got were Harley's.
It was a moss, but not a wild one...
Like a hybridized one you can buy in
the nurseries, etc.. but it's really tight,
and short and mounded..
This kind is flat to the ground, but airy like.
Same family maybe just a different latin name,
that I don't know...
Found Hollywood\'s album....click on Moss Madness So these are the "tame" versions then. That clears that up.
Thank you.
Yesssssss, that's it, I was just looking'
under Jillie, not Hollywood..
The lighter green moss is very similar to
the one' Dianna has..
The darker green moss is the moss that's breed
as Irish Moss for nurseries..
*I am not an expert, so if someone has the names
of these or can fine tune it a bit better, HELP*
Weezie, I showed the picture in the link that you posted to Jim and he agreed that it looked just like what was growing. I wish I had potted some up before we cleaned the garden out...
Thanks, again!
Dianna
Hi,
i had it in my front garden this summer and i think it s baby s breath, can it be.
Francine, do you have a picture of yours???
I'm pretty gosh darn sure what Dianna had
was/is that moss... I've seen it like my
whole life here in this area where I've grown up.
so, I'm bankin' pretty high on it being a moss.
*not knowing the latin name of it though..*
But if you have a picture, I'd love to look at it,
there IS a wild baby breath like plant too...
I can't remember the name of it, as of this typing, but I'll try to hunt it down..
***Please remind me, if I don't get back to it,
I get easily side tracked..****
