It's a thistle & it's a pest weed. When I see one I chop it up into a billion pieces then dig up the roots. They're invasive, they're ruin a cow pasture, the cattle will not eat grass growing close to it.

Not only will it ruin a pasture but if it's in your yard you need to destroy the whole root system it will take over and ruin flowerbeds and yards and they are painful (thistles and needles on stem) to pull and the roots get very very large (like mass quantities)
