seems to be a vine type but prefers crawling on ground.stems are dark purple,new leafs seem to come out green then go purple.tolerates sun pretty got was 101 outdoors when tok this pic.brought a cutting back with me.kinda makes ya think of ivy http://www.community.webshots.com/user/njoynit

I agree with Weezie that its an ornamental sweet potato vine. In our Master Gardner booth at the local fair this week we have a contest where participants are asked to name (identify) the plants. My sweet potato vine have been a puzzler for some.
Have to add that some folks (the guys) like to name them Joe, John, Bill, etc. I smile and pretend I haven't heard the joke before. smile

Hey I have one of those purple jews. Can't remember the other name. I have it as a hanging basket. Kinda unusual plant isn't it! Had some nice pix there.

I moved it to a hanging basket yesterday(well a broke one...no hanger thinggy :rolleyes: ) that jew plant sure was pot bound...poor thing probably would have grown lots more this year if had checked it.I'd swear it ate soil..LOL
thanks for the ID thought it was sweet potato vine but leaves seemed smaller.now to hope it overwinters well for me...glad i got a plant light bulb smile wink cool

FYI....Njoynit...the plant you have labeled Purple Jew in 2003...I believe is called a Tradescantia "Purple Queen" (Purple Spiderwort) (Commelinaceae)....I found it in the White flower Farm Catalog....I have one and remembered you called it something else.
