I have a palm house plant that was given to me. It came with a plant-care guide that identifies it as a Beaucarnea recurvata, though when I compare it to pictures I have been able to find online, they don't match up well. I have a digital photo but apparently cannot post along with this question (?). First I would like to ID the plant. Next...it has gotten too tall for our home. Can I do a radical prune near the base of the plant in hopes that a new shoot will develop and the plant will survive?

I haven't figured out how to post pics here directly either, but I know if you post it on another site, you can post a link here. There's a thread up above under "member benefits" called "in need of some tech help" where AFGreyparrot has posted a couple of links to servers where you can post photos, then put a hotlink here.

David,
webshots\'

That's the most popular one that most everyone uses...
If you do a forum search, on how to post pictures or photo's, some links should come up too.

Do a FORUM SEARCH of WEBSHOTS too and I think alot of posts will come up...

There are some others that people have, Afgreyparrot *aka Cindy* has one on some..
Loz has one and Bestofour and Meg and ohmygosh, there's several here that can stear you both in the right direction...

Hope this helps a bit, and don't hesitate to ask some more questions if you need them answered!!!

Weezie

There is one point I would raise, that being if it is a true palm DO NOT cut it back. True palms have only one growing tip (what is sold as heart of palm in the stores) if the growing tip is killed or removed thats it for that plant. If I may digress thats why it is important to get heart of palm that is farm raised in a sustainable fashion, harvesting the heart of palm kills that plant. Plams can not be lowered in height by pruning. All that having been said there are MANY plants that are called palms that are not (the joy joy joy of common names again ack). Good luck and we await a pic.

I use Image Shack. I've been doing so for about 6 weeks and it's reliable.
