What is this? (Well, besides the weeds?)
It sort of reminds me of the larger Hyacinth I have in the yard, but these are real tiny... maybe 2" tall. Last summer when I was weeding, I kept running into itty bitty bulbs (about the size of corn kernels), but what was growing out of them looked like spiky grass! I was tossing them out, but I guess I missed a few.
I didn't know that they were flowers!
Maybe I shouldn't have thrown them away... they're kind of cute!

I also don't know what those little teeny Evergreen tree-looking things are in the foreground, but this is the only flower bed they're in, so I'm wondering if I should leave them alone! Does anybody know what they are?

Those things are grape hyacinth's.

And the teeny tiny tree things to me, look like a sedum... watch for a yellow flower and let

Hmmmm! So THOSE are Grape hyacinth, huh? I thought that Hyacinth were bigger plants (& "Grape" being the purple ones!) They're in a spot that gets lots of water from where the hose leaks (I know, I know... I should fix that!), & succulents don't like that.
I will leave them alone though, & let you know what they do.

The Grape Hyacinth is pretty hearty as I've seen from my own... They multiply like crazy if left alone. I started out with 2 medium sized bulbs and when I went to transfer from container to ground, they had atleast 15 babies each. They're sweet smelling and attract alot of bee's.

The tree thingys... have you pulled one up to see if it's a bulb or rooted plant?

Weezie, are we talking about both the plants I asked about, or the "Grape Hyacinth"?
(Sorry... I seem to be muddling multiple plants in my questions lately!)

Guess what Merme... They multiply like crazy even when you DON'T leave them alone! There must have been 2,000 little bulbs there last year & I thought I got them all. From the looks of it this year, I missed about 800!

I don't know what you mean when you say "medium sized bulbs". These are maybe a little larger than a kernel of corn.

The tree looking thingys (Aren't we technical around here? ) are rooted. I'll take some pics tomorrow, after I hear back from Weezie.

So my "tomorrow" turned into 2 1/2 weeks sorry about that! I didn't forget... just couldn't seem to get back over here!

It almost looks like a Juniper, but it's not. This is very soft to the touch, even though it looks spiky. (I don't have any Juniper anywhere close here, & even if Juniper makes seeds, I can't believe that it would be as prolific as this is... it's really all over, in that one flower bed! And, it doesn't taste like Juniper!)

Here is what it looks like today... just 15 days since the first pic! (I've been weeding around it, just in case it's "something"!)

It's quite leggy & isn't very pretty at this point. I'm beginning to think that it IS a weed.

Oh... and about the Grape hyacinth...

If that first pic I posted here is Grape hyacinth, then what is this?

This is what I thought a Grape hyacinth was... & didn't even know this was in my yard until it bloomed!

That looks like the wild stuff we have growing around here. Lemme shoot off an email to my FIL and ask him what it is cuz I forgot.

If it is that, it has yellow flowers and gets tall. I like it but lots of people say they are weeds.

I bought bulbs to plant...
So, they were paid for..

*but remember all plants are/were weeds somewhere's, and hybridizers just get ahold of
them and breed in good traits and breed out bad traits...*

These will all spread prolifically for you,
if you can resist picking them the first couple of years..

Of course, I'm finding out that some "weeds" are my favorite things! ("Weed" being classified as something that some people might not want in their gardens.) I'm anxious to know what the one is that Triss is thinking of... I really like the pink & white ones pictured in your link, & if they come in yellow too, maybe Triss can bring me some of those "weeds" when she comes to visit this summer!

I love those other links, Weezie! I saw Anemones in my friend's garden last year & I do want to get some of those ... maybe I already have them, & they'll pop up in my yard! (I have no idea what all is out there!)

Ok, I heard back from my FIL. Here is what he had to say.

"That is Scotch Broom. I read in the paper recently that it chokes out
undergrowth and caused a higher than normal death rate from starvation this
year in the elk herds around Mt. St. Helens."

Did not find anything on it here in the forum other than that it is a weed .

OK, I know what Scotch Broom is, without even looking at the links! (Thanks though, Triss... and please DO NOT bring me any!)

Those are BUSHES, & if I'm not mistaken, they've been tagged as a noxious weed! I can't, for the life of me, figure out why Washington state has them growing all up & down the I-5 corridor along the mid hiway divisions! I don't think I know of a single person who isn't allergic to that stuff... it'll plug you up in nothing flat! When traveling in Washington, we roll up all the windows when we see it, because the air is thick with the pollen when they're in bloom!

Since I'm so new at this gardening stuff, I think that a lot of my plants feel exactly that way about my exhuberance while I'm learning!
