I just call them that - or I call them goutweed, just for something to call them.

Does anybody know what the stuff is called?

Hi Carly,
I think that your plant closely resembles
"Yellow Archangel" (Lamiastrum galeobdolon variegatum).

What people call "Goutweed" around here is Aegopodium podograria,
a plant with similar variegation, but differently shaped leaves,
as you can see in this image.

Oh yeah . . . well it isn't yellow though. But both pictures look like my plants.

Thanks, Zulu.

I think it looks like Lamiastrum also. It is definitely not Aegopodium.

I've looked at a couple of pages on the lamiastrum thing - it looks something like it.

Hi Carly,

Zuzu's Petals is correct. The common name is Michael Archangel because it booms yellow spikey flowers in the spring. I use this as a utility plant. It can be invasive so use it with care, but it will grow most anywhere. Tolerates shade, dry conditions, moist conditions, chokes out most weeds, can be ripped out of the ground and added to containers for the soft green leaves. It is very easy to transplant and spreads quickly.
