Hi Everybody!!
Hope your summers are all going great!

We went camping and this was growing near our site. Looks like a cross between a mushroom and flower? About 8" tall. Tons of pine tree's all around and of course pine needles. Anyone know?

Reading up a bit more about these. Apparently they are an indicator of where matsutake mushrooms are growing. This plant is a parasite that gets its nutrients from the growing mushrooms. Matsutake mushrooms are excellent in cooking!

Two things about being in the woods;

you won't die of hunger
you won't die of thirst

If you keep a good field guide(book) with you.

hehe!!!!!

No, we didnt go to the grand canyon, (I wish!!), we went to a place called Union creek here in Oregon. I LOVE that place up there. It's so peaceful. And there's nothing better than a nice meal being cooked out in the woods smile

I get chopping and ANTHING that I can done before we leave so it's nice and easy to put the meals together. This time we went with 12 other people. All friends of my Son's. He got to come home from the army for 13 days. It was a blast. And I tell ya, feeding 12 hungry 21 year olds is a lot of food!! I would do it everyday of the year though if I could (and it was warm). We drink along with them and it's our chance to be goofy and young again.

This woodchuck chucked 2,000 lbs of oak this morning before the first cup of coffee!! Then for breakfast we had snake soup, with bear steaks and eggs. For lunch it was coyote jerky, poysenberries, funky fungi, and cambia fluids to wash it down.

10 years of camping under the stars, cooking over a fire, and getting moths in the dinner.

If you have a good field guide, you'll avoid the problems and and you can eat the weeds&trees. teech

And yes, I do care. smile

You know what I got for being a smartass?

The hingey part of my lower back is totally yanked, oy, it hurts, the oak load was real.

Then, after posting, my big toe folded under my foot, the joint popped LOUD, and there was this searing pain all the way to my ankle. What did I catch my toe on? the floor.

There's always a squirrel around to power my cordless computer. laugh

I grew up in the country..
and ate my way outside in the summer time...
I knew what berries came first and the last
before fall..and where every patch of them where
up and down the road from me....
(insert licking her lips gremalin)

I'd starve to death in the winter though!!!
