When I was a kid in Pennsylvania, we had a large, briar-like/bramble type bush in our backyard that produced a dark russet "flower". These flowers were small and shaped like unopened buds and had the texture of strawflowers. My mom always called this bush "Myrrh", but it could not have possibly been true Myrrh which grows best in the deserts of the mid-East and Africa!

Anyone have any ideas on what this bush actually was?

Hi Merme,

About your Myrrh shrub, here are links I found on the 'net.

My older sister believes the "Mystery plant" was a variety of Witch Hazel. Although I was quite young, I remember really liking those russet toned budlike things on it.
