Finaly found a Crown of Thorns.
[Linked Image]
Carolyn called while I was at hospital with Patsy said they got in 500 Crown of Thorns today she would set one back for me. When i got there that was all they had already sold out of the rest. Glad she saved it for me. She also gave me some Sedum(sp)to start as well as a start off a cactus.

ok - just posted and lost it...

Looks very good, JV!
Actually looks A LOT like mine - the one I got reduced at my supermarket because it was finished flowering then - good deal for me!

Do you know what color the flowers will be?

Thanks for the compliments. Lynne she was not sure she thouhg tmight be a light red. Also she ask me to come up there Monday she will bring me a start of Mother of Thousands as well as a purple Eurobia like the one I posted I got from my Mother. Indeed a good friend to have. I gave her some Red Shield seeds last year and that startred us trading back and forth she has some Banana tree plugs after it gets warm.

Looks like you are going to get some very nice plants, Jimmy. I'm still waiting on some Mother of Thousands from Jillie - where oh where has she disappeared to again - miss her soooo much!

Here is the Crown of Thorns that I got fot 99 cents because it was out of blooms - bloomed 2 for me before shutting down for winter - they are the light red too.

My crown is about 3x3x1 ft high. It keeps trying to get choked out by a asparagus fern.

Cinta I have 3 trading friends localy now. One in each Wal-Mart garden center both as well as one of the managers and two in a Callaways Nursery here. Will have to get one of every color now as I now have another addiction. Do any of you know how hard or easy it is to start from cuttings or seed?

Jimmy in another post here, Cinta said to start them in water. I ground layer mine. It is about 40 years old. Plain cuttings in soil have given me poor results. I have never seen seeds or had volunteers around anywhere.

i couldn't find one up here either. i remember them all over in FL (grew up down there) so I asked my mom to look for me. My aunt actually had some in her yard so she mailed me one. wrapped it in wet paper towels with a plastic bag and packed well in a cardboard box! It survived the trip and is actually doing quite well up here as a hose plant in the winter! it is a miniature variety- will never get big- i think this is actually full grown. i love it the kids ask me every time they bump into it "Why do you have to have a plant with pokies?" LOL it has red flowers when it blooms.

Yes JV water is the way to root them. I was told it is probably one of the only succulent that would root in a glass of water.

All those trading buddies you will have to share when you get the other colors. LOL!!!

Diane this is my first try with crown of Thorns. Maybe Cinta, Njoynit or Tina can help you.I have mine on my covered porch also not in the house unless we get bad weather warnings of freeze or high winds.

I need to know more.I need to know if they we're calloused over before you rooted. Its very difficult to root COT.When I had sucess(only once& took a very long time)I let it sit for about a week cause forgot.was good& calloused though.I dipped in rooting hormone& potted and watered in with root starter and forgot about watering it for about 2 weeks.I'd guess was a month before seen new growth.new growth was in the very tip& a few leaves re sprouted. When hubby crashed the red one& I tried to root all the stems all died but one that was left laying on AC& pure neglect was proably what rooted it. the pot sat in bright light.
Stress can make the leaves fall.Once it gets rooted they are happy watered once a week(but I do water more when is windy or the leaves will curl& twist) another thing that can make leaves drop is dryer air.I've tried mine in a different spot this year, but will likely move it back to older spot.I think it liked the morning sun better. It still gets 2-3 hours direct sun,but is afternoon sun right now.But is still in bloom& getting new growth.

Yes.watch high winds.I don't know WHY I thought a screen would be fine protection for hurricane.I guess I just thought the pot won't blow around.
