One word of caution on shell planters...watering can be tricky!
I found a bunch of shells on Metompkin Island last year, planted them with a bunch of my baby
plants. Talk about trial and error!
I've found that having a watering schedule is better than checking the soil, frequent small waterings because you can never tell if the roots are wet since there is no drainage...
Warning given, my
plants are doing great now but it was touch and go for a while because we went thru some too-wet-too-dry cycles.
Oh, I've also found that if you spoon the soil in and shake the shell, it gets further in...once the interior of the shell is soiled, add the
plant before you finish filling it!
These shells look great on the fireplace, btw. And if you're tricky, they can even fit well on skinny windowsills.
