i just got an orchid about a week ago, maybe two, i don't remember. i have it under a compact flourecent bulb on top of a large saucer of water with gravel. it isn't dry, and i haven't watered it since i got it. but its turning yellow....should i transplant it? get it more light? what?

what kind of orchid is it? what kind of soil is it in? or is it in moss or bark?

if you haven't watered it since you got it, it probably needs water...

i don't know of too many that like a lot of light - you might want to move it to a spot where it gets indirect light.

the compact flourecent bulb is only 13watts (equal to a 60w. incandecent) its a daylight bulb. its in bark and it was a little dry, so i just gave it a splash of water.

and it is a dendrobium or however you spell it.

oh, that's a bit too much light!! this particular type should also be misted every few days, too.

here's some info on caring for dendrobium and a bit more

do you still have the tag that was on it? let's make sure it's in the dendrobium group...

Dens can take full sun, acclimate them slowly to it. Let the potting mix dry between waterings. Fertilize every other watering with 1/4 strength orchid food or Miracle grow or 10-10-20 or 20-20-20 fertilzer.

well, the orchid had like 2 main sprouts, one of which had the flower. then it had 2 much smaller, newer sprouts. the two large sprouts are pretty much dead. all the leaves fell off and the flowers died. HOWEVER, one of the small sprouts looks very nice and green and has grown since i got it. so i think i may just watch it for a while, see if the larger parts come back
