Do pea plants normally have a stem this thick, the crop I planted last year was spindly by comparison, or should I be happy they can grow 3'tall unsupported.

I can not answer your question since how this is my first year and also my first year trying to grow them and it ain't working since how my watermelon was to close.
BUT.........
Those are nice. They look very healthy compared.

I can not wait until next year.

Longy- Burpee Sugar Snap edible podded.

I might grow them along the perimeter fince next year, they'll have 6'up and unlimited left/right growing room.

My peas keeeeeeeeep getting eaten...

tender tops, grrrrrr, and this is the 3rd time.*

But my stems are thicker too...
but look healthy..
*when they grow back from being eaten that is*
