I received the following cactus today:

Gymnocalycium Yellow Graft
Mammillaria Saboae
Copiapoa Dura

What is the best potting mixture to use for these? I was told just to mix up sand with potting soil. Will this work?

Be careful with sand. Coarse sand is good, fine sand holds water. Acquarium gravel is good to mix in, or you can get a commercially prepared cactus mix. Copiapoa are really slow growers.

I often put gravel or pot shards at the bottom of a container to aide in drainage.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll use a sand/soil mix.

I'll have to break out the camera and take some pics.
