I think they're neat too. I like how they turn their heads to look at you. I was reaching inside the mess of leaves to find some seeds ripe for picking and almost touched him (or her). They aren't the insects that sting are they? Is that the Walking Sticks? Can't remember.

I've never heard that they sting.

Weezie, wonder why they don't live in your area.

I thought someone said they got bit by one??
Can't remember who though??????

Also, Sheri, I can't imagine why either..
I am totally organic and lot's of fallow areas
they can live on/in...

I wish I did have them.. they'd be alot of fun
to find and watch...

Nobody believes me but I saw on TV one time where praying mantis will eat hummingbirds. And this weekend we saw one on our hummingbird feeder. We've got a picture I just need to get it posted. What I saw on TV was a gigantic mantis with a partially eaten hummer sticking out of it's mouth. The mantis on my feeder was very small so I can't imagine that he could eat a bird, but don't the females eat the males?

Sheri, I believe you. I had Jim get a mantis off of one of our feeders on Saturday. I think he was waiting on our hummingbirds to come eat, so he could eat one of them. Wasn't happening here...

Check out this site...

I almost raked one to death yesterday but I saved him and put him on my roses!!
we used to get them in our screened in porch when I was a kid. We would catch flies and put them next to the mantis and watch them eat them! so groooosss! Better than Animal Planet. I put a bee in with one once to see who would win and the praying mantis won! ew.
