Here's a couple self-explanatory pics. What am I doing wrong? I have it beside an East window, I keep the soil moist and I feed it with an 8-7-6. The leaves were doing this before I fed it so I'm sure it's not the fertilizer.

Alot of times it's the stuff in the water *from like cities or towns that add chlorine, floride, etc..*
Do you let your water sit out over night before you water????

This seems to be the same problem I'm having with my Moses in a basket. However, I don't think it can be the water because I have 2, and one has the problem and the other doesn't. I thought it was a week of overwatering, but that was over 6 months ago and the leaves keep burning up. It now happens a lot less than before, so maybe it is getting better. I'm hoping that spring will encourage any bad things to grow away.

Maybe it is the type of soil your using.. maybe too much water, and too much fertilizer. Usually only once a month for fertilizer. dodge

ChristinaC : I don't know this plant myself but your soil sure looks wet my just be the photo also the white on top of the soil could it be salt from a water softener? Or could be Pearlite. I save my old water bottles where I buy water for my AV's as our water will kill them in a hurry. I put a little bit of Red Apple wine vinegar in the jug then fill with water I then let it set until I need it also put a cap of vinegar in my dogs water and I drink some in water every night for arthritis. I bottom water everything .I have nothing that I water from above the soil. This may or may not help you. I use all organic products most I make myself so I have no chemicals in mine at all.

Perlite has a lot of flouride in it, so coupled with your tap water, you could just be burning the leaves. Also, your soil looks quite wet, so I would hold off on the watering a bit until the top surface is dry, and switch to distilled or rain water if you can. Also, refrain from fertilizing until you have a ton of new growth, and even then use at half strength.

sorry, i've been away. let's hope people are still checking this thread! my moses plant is getting crispy at the ends and although i thought the problem had been resolved, now that there's lots of growth, more and more leaves are turning brown. for the first time yesterday i noticed a tiny white bug, caterpillar-shaped but only about 3mm long. could this be a problem? i don't think water quality, fertilizer, or pot size are the issues because i have 2 plants and the other is fine. my first thought was a spell of over-watering in the fall, and i guess i could have done it again. but when i make cuttings, i place it in a bowl of water until there are tons of roots. the plant is happiest in all water. hmmm. thanks again!

for starting new plants, i've always cut off a branch and put it in water. it grows roots very quickly and the leaves stay happy. i've been trying to post a photo without success. i will try again when i have more patience and time. in the meantime, this website has photos of the moses in a cradle. amy http://amy-hondronicols.magix.net/

You have to put your photos with another service .
Here is the easiest PHOTOBUCKET.COM You put you photo on there first . After you upload the photo. Go to the bottom of the photo, it says IMG click that turns blue right click your mouse select copy Then go to where you want the photo to appear. Right click again and select paste. That should do it .....

I apologize Dodge..I didn't see your post about wanting a cutting. I've been watering with distilled water and I think that's all it needed all along. You can see how much better my plant looks now...lots of new growth!

now that i can handle photos here, i got a better view of the problem. you can see one leaf that has turned brown and crispy from the end, and others that have started with yellow spots. i thought things had improved but the last 2 weeks have renewed the problem. amy

pumpie,
I can see that now ......did you check for bugs under the leafs? White fly is a large problem here since january..I spary mine with water and dish detergent.. Mix teaspoon in water.. Or is it by any chance rootbound? If there is a hole in the bottom see if the roots are coming out.. I am going to keep that photo and see if anyone knows .
