Can anyone tell the difference if there is any between hedging cedars and ordinary cedars?

The ones used for hedges are normally arborvitae,they have a very similar leaf to the cedar. The tree varieties such as white or red cedars are not very good for use as hedges. They are not as dense, and tend to produce holes that do not fill back in, if trimmed to deeply.
