Hello everyone.

I was given an epi leaf maybe 5 or 6 weeks ago. It's in a small, square, 1" plastic pot. I thought that there would eventually be new growth at the base of the cutting. But There's new growth at the top left portion of the stem. It's growing really fast too.

My concern is that this thing is going to topple over eventually. Especially being is such a small pot. But I didn't want to overpot it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should it be growing this way. I know nothing of the plants, but I was given the cutting, so I figured I'd grow it. Duh

By the way, I'm not sure what type of epi it is All I know is that it produces red blooms.

Hi Amany, it sounds like you've got a happy Epiphyllum on your hands thumbup

The way you describe the growth sounds right to me,
new "leaves" coming from the top and sides is not unusual.

You're right about not going oversized with a new pot,
in fact, my experience is that they bloom better if they are a bit root-bound.

Many Epis have a pendant growth habit, and yours may be that type.
It may, in time, make a great hanging basket plant.
In the meanwhile, perhaps you can add a support stake,
and just gently tie or prop the plant up
(try not to disturb the roots, they don't like that very much wink ).

You said that this is a new type of plant for you,
there is some wonderful info at this site if you'd like to learn more.

I agree with that last statement. I don't even own one and I'm addicted. I think they make gorgeous house plants.
