I have noticed light green, winged insects that are about an inch long hovering over my watermelon section. Occasionally, they bite me as well... Anyone know what these little creatures are?

I can't get them to quit moving long enough to get a picture of one. It is quite long, over an inch with wings. They tend to hover over the watermelon section, but I see them flying all over the garden when I'm watering. They bite too...

is it a real bite of just for the hairs on the insects legs that feel like bites?

are the wings clear or solid?

light green or dark green?

what do the antenna look like? short? long? like ferns? sticks with balls on the ends?

any damage to your plants?

photo would really help.. you could catch one and kill it in the freezer then photo it.

The wings have a slightly translucent, light green tint to them. I will have to get back to you regarding the pic, etc.

It might be, I don't think the wings were that long, but I'm not certain. I am getting a digital camera this weekend. By the way, What is a lacewing? Should I be concerned? What ever I have, there are tons of them.

Well, there's no damage to my plants (other than my former tendency to over water everything), maybe thats what they are.
