Hello all,

I like to make things that i can use in or around my garden. Little projects that don't cost a lot of money and are preverably made from recycled materials. I'm sure there are more people who like to do that and made some wonderful objects! Why not show them here! I would very much like to see your idea's!

I'll try to show you a picture of my last little project (it's for cuttings to grow roots).
I bought 6 glass tubes (30 pence each) and made from left over bits of wood a stand. Now my cuttings can root easily in water (they won't drown) and i can experiment with additions to the water.

A nice idea...It will also keep them from getting knocked over.

Here's a fun thing or idea for your idea above...
You said for cuttings, well, there's those polymer crystals that are out on the market,
*the stuff inside babies disposable diapers that soak up liquid* is now available in colors, and you can root stuff in it as well...

It comes in clear mostly, but the new colors add some fun..
You can also make your own, by getting the clear and adding food coloring to the water.. when it soaks up the water, it'll take on water ever color you put in or mixed up!!!

So i end up with a garden in orange, purple, bleu and other colours... not only the flowers but also the stems and leaves are coloured! Lol Weezie My garden would become quite an attraction!
I use the crystals in my hanging baskets thou, because they hold so much moisture!

Weezie, i read my recent posts and i think you were revering to 'the additions to the water'. I've tried to make them root faster by using drops of water where little bits of the stem of a willow tree have been soaked in for a day or two. willow seems to have a natural rooting-hormone in it! As i know there's also a natural pain releave in it, the cuttings sure wont get a headache!

Yes, the willow branch will help in the rooting process...
You can soak those branches up to 4 weeks to get
even a gel like quality to the water...

Oh, and wouldn't your garden look lovely in all the shades..

I believe the one already purchased with the coloring in it, doesn't color you rooting plants though.. Not 100% sure about the one's with the food coloring....
I know a place that sells it on QVC and they use the colored stuff for like a bouquet of flowers just picked and it doesn't transfer coloring..
(I think it was Roberta's from QVC)

Hey Weezie, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the cheapie-cheap baby diapers and take the stuff out of them to make your own? As a matter of fact you might be able to cut the diapers into proper sized strips, wet them, wrap them around the cutting, and hold them in place with a rubber band.

What'cha think?

Ohhhhhhhhhh absolutely....

The only one thing when cutting those puppies,
the dried crystals/wet cyrstals, fall all over the place... so, you'd have to use the whole diaper, if you were going to use them like in probagating right on the tree or something like that...
Or funnel them into a jar or something similar..


We've even said, that when potting up a hanging pot, and you want to use plants that might like a tad bit of wet feet, you can put a diaper in the bottom of the pot/container and it will hold water for you so you don't have to water as often..

and shove the dirt and the plant right out of the pot/container*****

LOL Now who would ever think about using a diaper!! I have a million of those around here but I use them for the baby's cheeks..
I am sure that would work great in flower boxes I have that never seem to gave enough water!!

looks like a spider plant to me! OMG that thing is HUGE!!!! I don't think I've ever seen such a healthy looking spider with that many babies and that BIG!!
