I have only ever done the ones with popsicle sticks. But I would imagine just a nice small square with an opening. Don't know how hot glue would hold up in cold weatehr, but I am betting that thin wire would work as well to tie the sticks together.

Winter is a good time for doing stuff like that since you cannot be out in the garden digging in the dirt. Then it will be ready for all the birds come spring.

Guy, the link above has the specs for building birdhouses. The specs show which type of bird you can attract. Do you have Children or Grandchildren?? Because Children (some of them) like to build things. This could be a fun activity for the kids.

I've made a birdfeeder of a 20 cm piece of branch about 5-6 cm in diameter, made three holes in it and stuffed it with birdseed that i mixed with deep-frying fat (not salted).
A screw at the top and you can hang it wherever you like, birds love them!

Thanks Dave, got photobucket now! There's a picture of the solitary beehouse, but a picture of the birdfeeder has to wait until i fill it again! The birds have eaten all the seed lol!
