Hummingbirds go on nest in late MAY and don't show up much again until around the 4th of July (TODAY!). Then they hit feeders and natural food source with a vengeance. Most of the males migrate back to South America at this time although some males stick around and migrate with the females and immatures in the Fall. Males have NOTHING to do with nest building or taking care of the young; the females do 100% of those chores and when the young are mature enough to fly and feed themselves the females have NOTHING to do with their offspring again and will attack them at food sources.
I have seen exactly TWO hummingbirds this year. One at a state park in late May and one last week flying around a Maple
tree at our small Community Park in Hermitage. I will fill up my feeders again this week in preparation for the mid-Summer rush. I get them in my yard every year but ONLY in mid to late SUMMer/early Fall.
