Winter King, Green Hawthorne, (crataegus viridis) I have found a new tree that I am interested in...

This tree is interesting to me because it only gets 25 feet tall and it has bright RED berries on it during the winter...

Does anybody have these???? I would love to know your experience with them and opinions.

I discovered this on the HGTV site..

Look how pretty it is...

Birdman..Do you know if birds like the berries from this tree???

Do a little research on odor. Some hawthornes have an unpleasant smell. You may want to plant it where it is seen but not smelled.

I don't know about that particular Hawthorn , but I agree on the odor of some . I have a native hawthorn in my side yard , and when it blooms is is really yucky . I try to stay upwind from it ! LOL
Otherwise , I really like it . I did trim off all the long thorns from the lower part , and the lower branches , because I was afraid my young granddaughters might get poked in the eyes with them . ( They were pretty adventuresome while small ! )

There is another native variety , in another location . I have never noticed an odor from it .

Maybe not all smell.

If you want berries, try 'heteromeles arbutifolia' Christmas Berry. It is evergreen. And it has berries for months.
