I had to replant my patio tomatoes

If the stem is broken only half way in two...it may make it but will be slow to take off growing, Also If it has leaves below the broken place them it will come back out even if the top part doesn't make it, if no leaves are below the break...Then you will just have to wait and see.

What kind of weather? Wind? Did the stem break? You may be able to bury the stem if it broke just above the soil level and stake it. By "patio", do you mean the variety patio? This is a dwarf variety.

Last year I had a tomato plant break right in half...completely! (It was my fault ). I left the bottom half in the ground and planted the top half beside it. I ended up with two plants. It took awhile (as Comfrey said), I thought for sure it was dead...but it came back.

Yep, and a sprayin' of some kind of liquid fertilizer *as a foliar spray on the leaves will provide some food to the plant until it can get it's roots going.. not toooooooo much, 1/2 strenth every day or every other day...
just to wet their leaves and around the base of the plant....

That one tomatoe plant die so i just stuck it in a container and added dirt on top. I put peppers on one side so if the tomatoe does not grow back at least the peppers will keep growing.I covered them with a plastic milk jug. I have some kind of creature that keeps eating my plants I am not sure what it is. They even got a hold of my strawberry plant it doesn't even have fruit yet. I am so mad!!

Christina and Comfrey, you mean a tomato plant with no roots can sprout roots and live? I was surprised about this and would like to know more.

It may have looked like it died but I'd put money on it that it didn't. Mine looked dead...no question about that but I gave it time..slowly it came back and it caught right up with the other plants. My boyfriend kept shaking his head and saying, "get it out of the garden..it's dead!!!"..but I knew better! It came back!

Deborah..yes they'll sprout roots. Like I mentioned..it takes time!! Like Weezie said, provide it with some food...I did just that..and eventually it came back.

SO question? Is this going to be a problem since how I planted peppers on top on one side? My other plant is doing well it keeps growing no complaints over here. I'm lovin it. I have about 4 tomatoes on it now.

How cool, but the one (patio)that died had about 5 or more. This one is really cute it seems as if everytime it rains I get at least 1 or 2 more. This week it's suppose to rain all week so I might end up with more !!

You may have some tomatoes and peppers competing for some space...be interesting to see the winner. Go tomatoes!!!!!

I'm so jealous that you already have tomatoes growing...my are still in the house..far from fruiting yet. But I'm a patent person. Yeah right!

Well remember I live in Texas! The weather changes every second or so .

The tomato plant I have that the rain/wind broke, which wasn't broken all the way through the stem is still green and still standing up...I pushed dirt up around the stem to cover the broken part and then piled small rocks around it to hold it in place...It has been a week now, so I would say mine will make it. DH said the samething, get rid of it I have extra plants I can replace it with, but why do that if this one will make it?????

Nicky, is there any slimey, shiney trails around your plants????
Check for snails, they love this time of year,
and eating brand new babies fresh out of the dirt..

Don`t know about NO roots but I had a tomato which liked to grow on the ground no matter how I tied it up. Anyway Almost every place the stems were on the ground for a time they would grow roots and this grew like a weed all over the place on the ground.

Yes Deborah, you can just stick the tomato stem in all, and it has the ability all along the stem to make roots, *check out them little hairs on it*

You'll have new roots in no time!!!!
Just a wee~bit of liquid fertilizer sprayed on or the over the plant, will feed the plant a wee~bit until the plant developes roots..

If you plant pieces of tomato plant to root, try to give them some shade, this helps them to recover a lot better!
keep them shaded until you see them growing strongly, then place in full sun.

I don't see anything slimy around it but to be on the safe side. I'm going to put out some beer come this coming weekend and kill off what i don't know might be out there.

As for the patio tomatoe plant will if it grows with my mixed peppers thats going to be fine i will replant someone so that the other one will have room, but as of right now the tomatoe plant is DOA= dead on arrival.

I'm not sure, didn't someone tell me my other tomatoe plant is going to grow big and tall? I think that one is called early bird or early girl i am not good with names i have better time taking care of them then remembering there name. so far that one looks to be about 4 ft tall or maybe more.

I'm glad it rained away that sevin dust stuff!
