When removing some dead foliage from my daylilies today I noticed that one of them seemed to have alot of brown and yellow leaves. When looking down between the fans, I saw what looked like white webbing close to ground level, and I mean alot of webbing! It seems to be on this one plant and is damaging it as all new growth is coming up yellow and brown also. Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it? It looks thicker than a spider web and almost like thin cotton. I've never seen it before. Thanks, David

sounds like some kind of nest - can you see anything that looks like eggs or larvae?

can you post a pic?

It doesn't look like a nest, but whatever it is, is causing the plant to rot just above the soil line. I would say it looks like I will probably lose this one. I don't think my cheap digital camera would give you anything to go by as the problem is deep between the fans and hard to see. Sorry I didn't at least try as I got home late and we had a pretty bad storm this afternoon. It did a lot of damage to my other plants and destroyed my tomato plants.

A picture wouold be great!!!

Does it look like cotton??????'
I have heard of Wooly Aphids, and they look
like white cotton..*but I've only seen them on trees that were stressed*
If you squeeze it, does a rust color liquid come out???

It looks like a cross between cotton and a spider web and resembles a fungus. Its not something you would sqeeze, but more like a webbing throughout the bottom of the fans.
