I recently inherited some plants. One was a pot with 3 different species in it. It had been neglected for some time and the Dracaena has a really long stem with just a few leaves at the top. Can anything be done with this to make it into a more compact attractive plant? I have re potted them.

I am new to this site and find it is wonderful. There is sooo much knowledge here. Thank you in advance for any help.

I'll try to get a picture of it today and try to figure out how to upload a picture on here. I identified it by going to Lowes and seeing another one like it so I am not 100% positive what I have.

Well since that one worked, here is a picture of one of the other plants that was in with it. It had broken off to just a stub but it is putting out leaves now. Any ideas as to what it is? Or is it too soon to tell?

Are the stems kinda ringed with brown from where a leaf fell off? It is the one on the left, correct?

The first picture and then the plant on the right in the 2nd picture are the same plant. Yes, there tend to be brown rings where I believe leaves were before they fell off. The plant on the left in the 2nd picture I have no idea what it is.

Hope this is clear lol

Looks like it could be a dieffenbachia though most I have seen have white on the leaves. The rings on the stems are the same though. Here is some info on the care.

Is the plant in the first picture a Dracaena? And if I lop off the top do I root it in water or just put in in a pot of soil?

well I know the first picture is a Song of India it is a Draceana. I have one of these at home myself. grinnnn They like to be on the dry side between waterings and like indirect sunlight. i have not tried cutting this one and just putting it in the soil but I have with other Dracaenas and they have spouted slightly below the where I cut it off at. muggs
