OP TheGardenerGuy Member Joined: Apr 2003 Northern Illinois	We have a 20+ yr. old large apple tree that is reaching the end of its life. I was thinking about planting a tree/conifer underneath it to grow so when we have to cut ti down we will have a tree still there. Any suggestions? I was thinking of a blue spruce. We have 2 on the other side of the yard...A green and a blue one.

RugbyHukr Member R Joined: Apr 2005 SoCal via WV	most conifers put on foliage where exposed to the sun. ever notice that a blocked side of a conifer is usually bare as are the inside portions if the outer growth is dense
