This is what I will be working with next week. I am hoping to find all the seeds I have scattered around and will have to research the tallest to the smallest. I sure am glad to have the lorapetalum out of there...

Yes, we have a clean slate here. We had everything bush-hogged off the property before we had our home moved here. The only thing left was one little water oak. We planted 5 river birch, 7 sycamores, 5 redbud, 6 bald cypress, and 21 cedars and two cottonwood trees. We just pulled the redbuds and bald cypress and transplanted the lorapetalum in their places.

Jim says that the foundation bed is SW facing. I have mini zinnias, cleome, Hollyhocks, columbine, etc...

I have to figure out which plants can handle the full afternoon sun. I am hoping to have a shade garden one day (I love hostas), but for now our trees are still small.

All that you mentioned are all full sun,
mini zinnias, cleome, Hollyhocks....
I have my columbine in both areas, but you
are in a warmer growing zone than I am, so
maybe keeping them in the shade or away from
afternoon sun may be better.. dunno for sure..

But gosh, what fun..
I hope you take some pictures of the progression of it...

do they see that side of the house??? LOL!

If you post a complete list of your plants we can help you with the sun exposure...
