Ok, tried to stay out of the fray, but here is my 2 cents worth. First, let me agree with you on most of it.
But...
growing up, if we couldn't have hunted (or had donated meat), fished, and raised our own chickens and pigs, I wouldn't have eaten many days. So...
My husband is a hunter, he is also a hunter education volunteer for the state of Georgia's department of natural resources. Our beliefs coincide pretty well and our take on it is this:
Don't dog hunt, there is no sport if you have the animal sent to you in a panic. still hunting & bow hunting are ok,
IF you can either eat the meat or give it to a familiy that would eat it.
there are enough ways to cook game (not just venison, but turkeys, pheasant, doves, quail, wild boars, rabbits, squirrels, etc.) that there is no reason to let it waste.
AND... It has been determined that for folks with digestive issues (cystic fybrosis, cancer, aids, etc..) the wild game is not only leaner, but usually easier to digest.
Now, I can clean a deer, fish, rabbit, etc as well as the men, but since I DON'T HAVE TO, I don't! But I cook it, eat it, and take it if it is offered by a hunter wih too much. My only problem eating is is right after I have had to put it up for the freezer. But I am that way about beef and chicken!
By the way, we all carry fire arms in our cars to put any large animals out of there misery if they are hit on a highway. Leaving one to die a miserable death is the most inhumane of all.
