Hey, ya know how the quilt batting part of the filter is where the good bacteria grow, so they can kill the bad bacteria? Well, my question is, how often can you replace this batting with clean. I wash and wash mine, and it doesn't seem to look all that much better. It seems to have mostly dirt or silt in it. I haven't seen any of the yucky algae type stuff in my filter when I clean it, though, and the water flows really well, even when the batting looks all black/brown.
What do y'all think?

I change my batting when it slows down after it has been cleaned several times. I guess I change it maybe two or three times a year is all.

Has you water cleared up with the Adams filter?

Oh gosh, the water is so clear now its amazing! There is no string algae at all, only the little green fuzzy kind on the sides and on the snails and the lid of the filter.
