I am new to gardening. I would like to know what kind of plants are good to start my garden and when is the best time to start planting them, so when spring time comes around again, they will be close to blooming, or begin to bloom.

Bulbs might be a good place to start as this is the time of year to plant them for spring bloom. It might be getting kind of late to order from a catalog, but you might try online at Brecks or Holland Bulbs or Van Dyck's and Van Bourgondien which are both from Virginia Beach.

Also, Wal-Mart as well as Lowe's and Home Depot will have decent selections of bulbs for sale, just not near the variety you'll find from the bulb companies.
