Hmmm....I have some questions about sweet peas. When I first bought the house, I saw this stuff coming up near the corner of the house and I thought it was a weed and I kept ripping it out, but it kept coming back. Two years ago was the first time I accidentally let it get long enough to flower. So I let it grow last year-part of it grew into direct sun on a bed of mulch and did not seem to reseed itself. Some more of it grew into a more shady area, and seemed to reseed itself quite a bit. These didn't flower as much, probably because of the sun? I guess my question is, is there such a thing as a perennial sweet pea, or do they reseed themselves so much that, even without letting it grow for a couple of years, it managed to last. What really got me thinking about this is that I would like to have the vines in front of my new bathroom window, but it's too far away from where it's coming up, so I was wondering if I could safely transplant them? The spot that I would like to put them is more favorable anyway (sunnier, warmer). What do you think? Sorry for such a long post!

Rozy,
Yes there is such a thing as a perennial sweetpea.
We even have them as road side weeds up here...
They are very tenacious, but I think beautiful flowers.
They come in dark pink and a light pink...
They can grow just about anywheres, except water.

The flowers to pick are absolutely scrumptous.
So nice for a little bouquet!!!

Yes, they do re~emerge from the clump that they grow from and they do re~seed.
The plants that reseed, will probably be more hardy than the actual plant it'self....

I'd try doing the wee~one's early in spring and you may have more luck. And if for some reason the plant isn't happy there, you still have your original momma plant where she is and happy to make some more seeds and new babies for another trial spot next year.

Hope this helps!!!

Keep us posted on what you end up doing!!!
Love to hear updates angell or bad dev !

Weezie

P/S Get yourself some "Old Fashioned" annual sweet peas too, if you really like sweet peas you will not be disappointed you grew those, Awesome colors and what a sweet~sweet smell...

Thanks Weezie-your info makes my job a little easier-my dh wanted something in front of the bathroom, and he suggested training the ivy that's already there. I saw several potential downfalls with that, so I was thrilled with the idea of just moving what I already have. I'll be sure to post lots of pics once things get going. Now, if this foot of snow would just go away...I've got a lot of digging to do!
