okra going? I've planted okra twice but it keeps disappearing. We've had rain and we've had sunshine. My squash, radishes, and tomatoes look good. Is there something that eats only okra plants?

Okra isn't something I do but I came across something yesterday. Okra seeds have a very limited shelf life and frequently don't sprout. If you haven't seen a plant then it's bad seed.

If that isn't the case, Okra does have pests but I'd need more info to even venture a guess.

Q. What causes my garden okra to fail to grow properly when planted in the early spring?
A. Maybe it was planted too early. Plant okra three to four weeks after the last spring frost to produce an abundant supply of fresh garden okra. If planted before soil temperatures warm up and before night temperatures average above 50 degree F, okra fails to grow properly.

The plants were up. On the ones left it looks like the top has been biten off. I wondered about the cool weather we've had. Maybe a combination of animal and weather. At any rate, I planted some again today. Thanks for the info and web site.

+++++++++++
Cut the bottom out of a little plant pot and put it over the seedling. It'll keep night bugs off the seedlings and protect from hot afternoon sun. Makes it easier to mulch and gives you something to do with those plant pots too.
