Somewhere, sometime back in the dark ages, someone told me that mint grown from seeds does not breed true. That mint has to be grown from a cutting? Is that true?

Seems like it they should be okay, unless it's a hybrid?

woah now isn't this weird! i was just looking up the peppermint plant just yesterday! i got some seeds for peppermint and they smell soooo good (i have some extra if you want some) and i was looking up on what to do for them and how to plant them and i found that real peppermint doesn't produce seeds and that if you want real peppermint to go somewhere where there is real peppermint and dig it up and plant it. here's a couple of sites i looked at yesterday...maybe they can help you some :-)

Wow, that is strange. I wonder what they consider to be 'real' peppermint? I have a packet of peppermint seeds from Richters (IMHO the worlds finest herb catalogue!!!) and someone gave me some from Home Depot. Now I'm wondering what I've got... Duh

Ooh, ooh, ooh -- I'm drooling over all the lovely mints at NoThyme (another awesome herb seller) wink

yep I've bought seeds for several types of mint but I have yet to have one come to look like a mint plant. Oh they smell minty and it produces a root that other plants shoot off of but they never get the serated leaves nor do the leaves ever get big. Guess I'll have to wait for some starter plants to arrive in the area. I'm hoping that the local nursery gets in some chocolate mint. They had some several years ago but I was buying mulch and didn't get it.
