OP gardening with kids Junior Member G Joined: Aug 2005 central Illinois	Hello...would like to find a fall flowering plant for a small container that could be handled by grade-school aged kids...approx. 25-30 kids. Would prefer to plant from seed. Any suggestions?

alankhart Member A Joined: Aug 2002 Knoxville, TN	I can't think of anything that you could plant by seed this late and get blooms. You might try an herb like sage or oregano because they germinate fairly quickly. Also, this time of year you can usually find small containers of mums just about everywhere.

WCutler Member W Joined: Feb 2004 Nashville TN	It is kind of late, but I like Asters for fall color. You may find them in pots and transplant them if you need color immediately. If you are waiting until next year you can find Aster seeds in many places next spring.

Are these things, the kids would plant and take home to mom...???...for inside the house...?? or something you want to plant by seed and plant outside before snow falls???? weezie13 Compost Queen! Joined: Apr 2003 N.Y.	If you take a peak into the ARCHIVES, there's some things in there about gardening with kids, sunflower house's and plants/flowers easy from seeds for kids..

cinta Member Joined: May 2005 Penna	How about Coleus. Not a flower but with the wizard packets you would get alot of different color leaves.
