yes it will survive.I'm further east than you.I grew in hanging baskets.yes deadhead them and fertilize regularly for constant almost bloom& in
spring I sheared back.the ones you got now will fizzle out in about august.I resowed the
seeds& added some stock to the baskets also.
also ya might try for color some panseys,marigold,calendula,dianthus(love dianthus)my marigold a lay a paper over them on frosty nights.gotta get ya some camillias too.I have a
tree camillia getting ready to bloom next month,will bloom till march.And weirdly enough.I have 3 blooms on my gardenia.I've never known them to re bloom.plus my gourds are
growing again& produceing.weird year.
