Hello everyone! One more pest question. I just picked some corn out of the garden and there were teeny tiny small white worms in it Duh . Is this normal? Seemed kind of gross to me. My Mom said to rinse them off and eat it. Also, there are beetles everywhere on everything. What can I do??

Oh yah, I forgot to ask should I use sevens dust on the corn or beans. I read the back and it gives you a harvest time. I guess I could go by that. If anyone can give me any good hints about growing watermelons, write back this is my first time trying. I've heard they rot easily.
Thanks,
Holly

A small amount(1/4 tsp. ) of mineral oil put on the silks when the silks are still white, will keep the bugs out, and the worms, sevin dust will do no good at the stage you speak of, as far as the beans and sevin...yes, it will work, if thats the chemical you feel comfortable with.IF YOU DO USE THE SEVIN>>>ALWAYS PAY close attention to the DAYS TO HARVEST ,Post application.

Phil and Laura,
Thanks for the great info. Also what other chemicals would you suggest as far as getting rid of the beetles that are eating my green beans away? One more question, would you eat the corn? I fed it to my boyfriend without telling him. grinnnn He seems fine today.

laugh laugh laugh I never through corn away because of a few worms. It's too good!! I just cut out any chewed parts and rinse it well. I'm trying the mineral oil trick again this year also. I use a pistol oiler with a flex spout for easy application. Just one squirt per ear. You can get one from a hardware store.
