Can I put Safer Fruit & Vegetable Insect Killer on a tomato plant? The label says it's for whiteflies, but I've never used it on the tomato plant before - just want to be safe.

zelinda,

This product made the Our Water Our World list for a safer Pesticide Alternate. I seem to remember that it cannot be used on peas...not sure (old age memory goes first) so will need to look into that matter. Do a search for it on the net.

Sorry that I cannot be of more help.

Hi Zelinda,
I have the directions on Safer's Soap and they say you can use on tomatoes up to the day of harvest. Mainly, shake well, mix at 5 Tbsp/gallon and do not apply when leaf temperatures exceed 90 degrees. Hope this helps. gardening grandma

Hi again,
Did you ever find out the answer? I had Safer's Insecticidal Soap on the brain as I had just used it on aphids on my morning glories. Sorry if I jumped the gun. confused My whole garden seems to be a bug haven. If you used that product, how did it work?

Hi GG,
I tried the spray twice at night, and the number of whiteflies has decreased with no bad effect on the plant. Strangely, I notice the whiteflies only on the new growth. I wonder why that is? Anyway, I'm glad I caught the problem early and it didn't turn into a major problem. One of my plants is now over 6 feet tall!!!
