if i plant a willow tree in the field where my drain field is... but not against it... (give it good room) and there is a ditch that almost always has water on the opposite side, will the willow roots try to "eat" my drain field? i so want a willow tree and that is the only place i have for it right now...

How far away are you talking about from the septic system?

the drain field ends about 75 feet (give or take) from the ditch and the septic tank itself is another 60 feet beyond that. i figured on planting the tree about 15 feet from the ditch, so it would be about 60 feet (fartherest distance) from the beginning of the drain field. what do you think?

a weeping or a regular?

I love a willow too, so pretty. Hubby liked the weeping so that was what I planted from a cutting I took off one on a ditch, thought it'd take up to 5 years to weep pretty, but it grew enough last summer that it is already weepy. and about 4 and half foot tall.

weeping... wasn't even thinking about the other kind. will have to look up a picture to tell me what the other kind looks like.

I got seeds for a desert willow, they are suppose to bloom these really pretty blooms.

regular willow looks almost like the weeping, the limbs stand up instead of weep.

and there's a cork screw willow, only seen those in pictures too.

well, i'm game for anything but pine trees!!!! my lot used to be part of a tree farm, and there are pine trees as far as the eye can see.

here all I had were pecan trees about a dozen out in the back, nothing in the front. So we have planted assorted trees in the front. Including 2 weeping willows.

moms got some pussywillow she planted it too close to house.I was a teenager when was planted& its taller than the house.I had her cut me some suppose to be sending them soon too me.its pretty also.has fuzzy pink things that are kewl looking.
