I got this piece of glass while taking a pottery class a few years ago. It's actually a lens from a street light in NYC - did you know that the green lights are actually turquoise glass? That's because there is a yellow bulb in them.

Anyway... I'd like to hang it in front of a window, as it's my favorite color, but can't figure out how to suspend it. Don doesn't think he can drill a hole in it without risking cracking it, so anyone have another idea?
It measures 8 1/2 inches across and is somewhat heavy.

Pick me, ooh, ooh, I knew..
(only cause my husband knew it, and told me the one day on a date for conversation...

Or build some type of wooden frame around it..

Have you considered a plate hanger? It might make it hang at an angle, though...
Or, you could get one of those picture hangers, the self-adhesive ones.

Lynne...I have a heavy round thing (a gear or something from an old tractor?) that I hung up with macrame. I made the hanger so it doesn't block any of the surface area of the gear, because I have a picture painted on it I didn't want to cover up. It was pretty easy and only took a few minutes to make...I wish I had a picture of it, but it's packed up. It turned out really nice.

pepper - I think the plate hangers would have too much metal on them for my likes, though it is a good idea.

I've been toying around with maybe getting a silver spoon or fork from a thrift store - an ornate one if I can find it - and bending it over and gluing?

Cindy - I haven't done it for many years, but am sure it would come right back. I've been searching macrame patterns online, but have mostly found plant hangers - any suggestions as to what to put into the search to get something round like that?

Ahhhhhhh, no... I had a bunch of stuff to yesterday, rabbits and cleaning out my greenhouse, and the pooping dawggg, and the kids home~terrorizing each other, and doing alot of reading and research...

I think I would try to "frame" it with a clear, lucite frame...

we have a windchime that used to have a weight that was stained glass. It was a disk of glass and was leaded around the edge, with a loop at the top. then they used the part of a fishing line that holds on the hook to hold a thin metal wire to the lead. If you don't mind silver around the edges, I can take a picture and maybe you could find a local stained glass artist???

I have some plates that I got round wooden frames for.They are donut like (no wood behind the plate. Let me see if i can find an eample on google......

I would use a frame specially designed for hanging plates. The ones you get to hang up plates from Bradford Exchange. You can find these wooden plate frames at stores like Rob MacIntosh Crystal and China Shop or any good quality retail store. Perhaps Sears. Anyway their designed to showcase the plates while not taking away from the picture on them. So this type of frame should be able to display your glass without any problems then all you have to do is to attach wire for hanging pictures or mirrors that has a rating of up to 50 lbs. Use a large cup hook and screw this in to the window frame at the top then hang the frame with your glass in it. And voila.
