(ok . . . so I did get a little bit of help from Jeff . . .)

This is the stump I've been blathering about. I truly did not think there would be roots going straight down . . . but there were - around 11:30 a.m. today I had it to the point where I could wiggle the thing.

Jeff came home from shopping and said 'I'll betcha' there's nore root to cut . . . it took him about 3/4 of an hour, then I chipped in at the end and we got her out!

That is the worst job on the lot for this year's gardening and I have it out of the way.

Home of my new juniper cuttings!

(I'll spend the rest of the week cleaning it all up out there)

Carly, Congrats on getting rid of that stump. that is one of the worst things about gardening, in my opinion, having to remove stumps!

Now, you have had a small taste of what our Forefathers went through many, many years ago when they were trying to clear land so that they could grow their crops and such.

I've dug out a few stumps before and it is NOT easy work. I'm glad I don't have to do it in order to have a place to raise food to feed my family or cattle!! But, there IS something good that comes from all that effort. Every time you go out and look at your new Junipers, you will remember the hard work and persistance you have put in. And because of all of the self-investment, you will appreciate that particular spot even more!!

Good luck with the Juniper cuttings!

Robert

Oh, I'm so happy. I'll put up pictures of Jeff with the stump and the actual work later on.

That's great Carly...It's not fun trying to get them out. Actually we had a blue spruce that we cut down and instead of digging the stump up we leveled it down and put a raised bed overtop of it.... laugh Sort of cheating, but WAY easier.

Glad you got it out! thumbup

Ummm . . . well, I tried that last summer, but the stump/trunk was diseased - I think that's the reason I couldn't grow anything in there.

Anyway, I've done it now - I saved the stump - put it behind a tree - I'll just hose it down in summer and let it die on its own.

Yesterday I went around and cut away at some extraneous root that goes along the ground.

I gotta' clean it all up today - snow or no snow. (We might have a wee bit of the white stuff, they say)

Boooooooooo!

Carly, joyful isn't it. How come you have no snow? We have over 6 feet of it so far, want some?

Oh, we've had a few snowfalls, but not as much as last year - and we've had some mild days.

Some days we've been warmer than Vancouver! Can you imagine?

Vancouver can't - ha ha!

Tamara - check out my poetry forum at Wild City - here's the direct link to two poems I've done as a 'spell' to get an early spring.

Was it me who said I wasn't going to get into seeding in the office this year . . . heh! heh!

I have some veggies came up thriving today - they've only been in the pot 10 days and they've grown!

When I went out, Jeff said - 'You don't need any more plants'.

Well, I didn't get any plants - I got seeds - hee! hee!

Nasturtium, spring onion, radish, snapdragons & more cosmos.
