Well I didn't think he could paint anything at all, so I was surprised. Don't mind the Xmas stuff in the pics, that down in the basement.

Well I have so many decorations now I can't fit them all under the front porch anymore...so yep, it looks that way! There are some autumn and spring things down there too! It's a 3 season kind of basement right now!

Yep! My treadmill is in that room too, with a TV, and a nice wooden glider chair...so it's not too bad down there. Just messy with decorations.

Hi!
I am also a painter, and have been for the past 12 years. I have my own, small, home-based and on-line business in fact!

My mother was a gifted artist, and my sister lives in England now, where she works as a commercial graphic artist (her name is Sarah, too). I can't even draw a straight line but do a lot of crafts, especially textiles and stone. I collect art and your work is VERY good. My wife wants to paint very nuch. I bought my computer in order to collect art, music, photographs, and games (I have several thousand of each)

Actually my textiles are my knitiing, crochet, and other yarn and thread crafts. As for stone work, in the Army at Ft. Hood, Texas they had a Lapidary workshop set up for the soldiers use. They trained anyone interested in ANY aspects of jewelry design and construction for free. At that workshop I learned how to cut cabochons, facet gemstones ( I later became their faceting instructor) and do other precious and semi-precious stone cutting. I also learned silver and gold working including soldering for channel jewelry (similar to Cloisonne) and lost-wax casting of silver and gold. I have ALWAYS been fascinated in Stone-Age Technology and through trial and error taught myself flintknapping, which is the art of chipping stone tools like arrowheads and knives from stone such as flint, agate, obsidian, and glass. I no longer have any of my jewelry I created, but may have some arrowheads I made out of glass. I will have to look. As for my textiles, Check the thread in this section called, Thorn Makes a Blanket. Here is a picture I designed and made myself for a ripple afghan based on the Australian kids group band colors, The Wiggles. THE WIGGLES AFGHAN

I remember the blanket well...and you did an amazing job on it!!! I have always wanted to take a course on jewellery making but never enough time...thats part of the reason i no longer pain is there is no time...and i used to sell the things that i painted...maybe someday when i am not running kids then i'll get back into it again. The arrowheads made out of glass sound really cool and if you do have the pictures...I'd love to see it. The blanket above reminds me of a chiefs blanket i saw on the Antiques Roadshow and it sold for a HUGE sum of money...it was just as colorful

I do a lot of beading. But the jewelry I made in the army was to take the rough matrix or crystal, cut, grind it, smooth it, and polish it, and then go to the casting lab to create and make the settings for it. In the case of gemstones we had to align the rough crystal to get the best effect, then CAREFULLY shape it a little at a time wearing magnifiers and measuring in millimeters and sometimes working in fractions of a degree of an angle..

thornius,
that sounds like fun to me. And very artistic. do you still have any of those creations?
there is a local bead shop here. They put out a monthly schedule of all their courses from Beginner to Expert. I keep promising myself, as soon as I find the time....
they have some beautiful handmade creations in the window.
